Have been coming here for a couple of years now. Their half rolls used to be 4 pieces then they changed it to 3. Now they've increased all their prices by at least $2 or more. They used to have more ingredients in their tonkatsu ramen. It seems like they're just getting more stingy over time. It's not worth it anymore.

Best spicy miso ramen! Go for lunch and get the mini chirashi bowl + ramen for $18. Great value. Consistently delicious & never disappoints. Love this place!

A little gem in Chino Hills! Service was great and food was good. Good... but not the best ramen I've had. But honestly, for Chino Hills, this place is a nice change from the chain restaurants around town. 3 stars in relation to other Ramen places I've been to, 4 for a Ramen place in Chino! I ordered the Spicy Miso after all the reviews mentioning this popular dish. It was spicy for me but on a cold day, I felt a nice warmth. For $8.95 you get a decent portion, I wasn't stuffed but it was enough food to last me for a few hours. The ramen comes with two small slices of chasu pork, a few bamboo shoots, and some miscellaneous veggies like chopped green onions. Spicy Miso - the broth was rich. You can taste the miso and you can taste the spiciness. Two separate flavors combined into one great bowl. The only issue was that at times, the spiciness overpowered the miso so that the broth tasted like hot pepper soup. Tonkotsu - this broth had the better flavors. Extremely rich pork broth. It didn't taste like it was overly salted or had heavily added MSG. I could actually taste the pork in the broth. Despite what everyone's been saying about the Spicy Miso, this one was today's winner! The texture of the noodles were nice and somewhat firm. But compared to places like Shinsengumi, Rokuan doesn't allow you to choose how you'd like your noodles cooked. It would be great to see a more personalized bowl of ramen here, but for what you get, it's good. Service is warm and you never feel pressured to leave even though the place can has a bar that can seat about 6-8 people and about 5 4-seater tables. I'd say a great time to go to avoid lunch rushes is from 11:30am - 12:30pm.

First time here. This place started off on the wrong foot by opening up 30 minutes late but quickly redeemed themselves with the tonkatsu ramen and I have to say it was quite tasty! Loved the broth! I was going to order sashimi as well but noticed that it was quite expensive. I wasn't ready to fork over $16.95 for 6 pieces without knowing for sure if it was worth it. It's a nice quiet place which I like. The decor.....well, who cares! I'm not here to eat the furniture, artwork, etc! With that said, I would definitely come back for more yummy ramen.

A little bit hard to find unless you know to look for the giant neon SUSHI sign and the unobtrusive white letters barely visible on the glass door saying "Rokuan". As the neon lights advertise, they serve sushi as well as ramen and you can order combos that have ramen and a sushi roll if you cant decide. My roommates and I all ordered the tonkotsu ramen. Service was quick and we had our bowls in front of us in no time. The ramen, though, was only average. The chashu was really tender and yummy, but sadly there was only 1 piece! It was a little lacking in portion size--1 piece of chashu, no egg, and barely any other fixings. The broth was flavorful but a tad too salty. Overall, it was a nice meal for a cold night but nothing special. And for anyone with nut allergies, there are some cashew pieces in the broth. They lend an unexpected crunch and flavor to the ramen that's actually pretty good, but it could be a bit of a surprise for some unsuspecting souls.

Good food, yummy ramen. Good sushi, especially the crunch roll! Service is avergae. Overall experience is OK because you better bring your whole party at once, as soon as you walk in or they won't seat you until your whole party is here. Eeek!

I'm leaving a review not because of the food but because of the service. I went there the first time but they refused me service because they were about to close and it wasn't even 1:30. I tried again a week later and again they refused me service because I can't get my food to go. I am a mother with a 2 month old baby and they also have signs that I interpret as this place to not be a child friendly place. So how the heck am I supposed to try your ramen?!
(1)Lisa C.
Super bad service if customers don't follow his "rules"! The owner has ridiculous seating rules, and unnecessary super high ego, so he doesn't appreciate his customers at all. No wonder their business is going down, since Appreciation & Service is the heart n spirit of Japanese food. The ramen is fine, n the other dishes are just average.

I can't tell you how good this food is. The tonkatsu ramen is incredible every single time I order it. Worth every penny of the 7 bucks, and honestly probably more. The sushi, while a little pricy for the good stuff (16.50 for two uni nigiri... but soooo worth it), the amount of fish you get is insane. The rice on nigiri leaves me wanting, but lets face it: with food like this, I'm not paying too much attention to the rice. Downside: very small. Be prepared to wait, at least for a dinner service. They do a really good job of getting food out quick to turn tables fast, but they're also not open for very long so it equals out. I almost don't want to give this place a good review just so less people know about it haha. One of my favorite places in the IE and even Orange counties to eat.

Read everyone reviews and decided to try this place out. First is a small place. You should get there early or you will be waiting for a while for a table. We got there at 6 which wasn't that busy at that time so we got a table quick. I was there for the ramen which one of my friend was raving about but I had to try the sushi to see if was fresh at least. I got the tomkatsu ramen and an order of yellowtail and tuna sushi. Food came out fast and service was very good. The ramen was bomb! It has so much flavor!! The sushi was very fresh tasting as well. It literally melted in your mouth. Very delicious. The prices was very reasonable as well. Definitely will come back to this place.

I've been living up the street from this place for a decade and barely starting coming in last year. I am mad at myself for taking so long to give it a shot. The combos here are delicious and reasonably priced. I like to go with the tonkatsu and the unagi bowl($13), they practically give you the whole eel (exaggeration). Go to ramen spot in Chino Hills.
(4)Naomi T.
I'm a wimp when it comes to spicy food but I really wanted to try the spicy miso ramen. Even though it was spicy for my taste buds I could not stop eating it. The noodles were the perfect texture and absorbed the delicious broth. I even drank most of the broth because it was so addicting. Definitely coming back here when I want authentic ramen!

A small restaurant with huge, but few 6-seater booths and a handful of bar seats, so expect to wait long, even on a Thursday night. Apparently, my mom has been a regular here for years, and kept it a secret from me all this time! Rokuan is really popular among her friends for its large, and relatively fresh sashimi portions. The menu was confusing and the rolls seemed expensive, until I figured out the prices reflect the ramen + roll combos. There are more numbers than needed on the 2 pages of ramen/roll combo menu... the key thing to remember is that the Spicy Black Miso costs $1 more than the Tonkotsu-based ramen. I had the Spicy Black Miso ramen and full crunch roll, the bf Tonkotsu and full spicy tuna roll. The spicy miso was interesting, and had a delayed kick to it. We've had better pork-based ramen. The rolls were standard, and these combos would have been more cost justified if we were given bigger portion sizes. Service isnt bad, just that one oblivious and slow high school chick... she passed by our table at least 4 or 5 times, without bothering to refill my tea cup, which stayed empty almost the whole time. Luckily, all the other servers picked up her slack. The food didn't dazzle us enough to make us wait half an hour for a table (even if the table was spacious enough to fit another small party). Next time, I would rather sit at the sushi bar for a shorter wait, and also avoid the service of the incompetent and quiet chick server.

Came here with my cousin and we were both VERY excited to try the ramen and were utterly disappointed. We couldn't even try it. We don't eat pork, and every variety of ramen they have has some type of pig in it. Needless to say, my cousin and I were bummed out. So instead, we opt for the Philadelphia & Spicy Tuna Rolls. They were alright. I felt there was too much rice and not enough fish, and the fish didn't taste as fresh as it could have been. I'd take a bite, chew on the rice that kept getting stuck everywhere, and then was left with not a lot of fish to savor in each bite. I wish they came up with a few kosher/halal/vegetarian options for their ramen.

My friends and I are always on the hunt for ramen places, so when a recent out had us going out towards Pomona, we looked up nearby places en route to chow down at. Rokuan came up with favorable reviews, and what excited me the most was that you could get a ramen + sushi combo! (Is this common? Because it was the first I found a place that does combos like this. Or maybe it's just my geriatric age that's causing my memory to escape me) Anyhow, when trying to find it, it'll be the suite that says SUSHI out front. It wasn't very busy for a Thursday night so we were seated immediately upon arrival. The menu isn't super extensive, but has enough to fulfill your ramen/sushi craving. It allows you to do a combo of ramen and 1/2-full order of sushi or other items that may tickle your fancy (like tempura, hand rolls etc.) I ordered the tonkotsu ramen (pork broth) and a half order of the langostino roll. Service was quick and we immediately had our ramen out. The ramen was pretty good. I've definitely had better, which is the only reason I've given it 4 stars, but it was satisfying for sure. Just wish it was little more spicy. The langostino roll was also fairly delicious, just a little heavy on the mayo, but otherwise yum. Since I had sprung for the langostino roll, my portion of the bill came out to around $12, but you can easily spend under $10 here which is a great deal. I don't come out this way often, but Rokuan is definitely a place to keep in mind if you find yourself in the area.

Rokuan is truly a hidden gem in the City of Chino Hills. There are a plethora of Japanese restaurants in town but most of them are concentrated on sushi. We were craving for some ramen that day and of course Yelp saved the day once again as we stumbled upon Rokuan. My friend said it is supposedly the best ramen place in town. My first thought was, "As opposed to all the other ramen joints in Chino Hills?" I'm not one to say no as I will try anything at least once. We walked in just before 12PM and there were only 2 other parties there. Judging by their conversations, they were all Japanese themselves. We looked over the menu and immediately felt overwhelmed. It was a good kind of overwhelmed though. We wanted to order everything off the menu but we knew that wouldn't be realistic. We had to ask our waiter to come back on 2 separate occasions because we couldn't decide what to get. After going in circles, we decided to get what we initially came for. Ramen! They offer great combinations here. You can get a bowl of ramen with either a 1/2 roll or a whole roll. I got the tonkotsu ramen with a 1/2 crunch roll. Our half rolls came out first. Kind of weird how they put lettuce in the roll instead of cucumbers. My friend got the 1/2 spicy salmon roll and it was literally thick cuts of salmon inside the roll. We were in so much shock at how thick it was. My picture doesn't do it justice. Although we only ordered 1/2 rolls, it was surprisingly fulfilling and more than what we expected. My crunch roll wasn't heavily breaded with the tempura on the outside and their special mayo sauce wasn't overbearing. Most definitely a darn good roll! As we finished 2/3 of our rolls, our ramen came out. First of all, I have to say how much I appreciate presentation -- presentation of the food and what the food it comes in. Our ramen came in these authentic-looking Japanese bowls that I have never seen before. It was also accompanied by a wooden ladle. You get a nice spread of seaweed, bamboo shoots, pickled vegetables and thick cuts of chasu. The broth was very cloudy as tonkotsu broth should be but it was also kind of oily. You can definitely taste the pork flavor and a hint of butter as well. I can safely say that I love the food here and I intend to come back real real soon. We left not only happy but overly stuffed. Totally awesome!

Ramen Good. Rolls ok. It's the only place in Chino Hills, that has an authentic Japanese ramen on their menu. Place is really small, so there could be a wait. Service is good.

I recently moved to Chino, Ca and was in search of Ramen, because I couldn't drive out to Temple City which is where I previously enjoyed some delicious authentic ramen. I Yelped Ramen and decided to try Rokuan, because it had great reviews and the pictures looked good! We got seated right away, and both my fiance and I ordered Ramen, the spicy kind and wow were we blown away with all the flavor this ramen had, sure we were burning our mouths off, cause when they said spicy, they meant it! But it was that GOOD kind of spicy you want to keep eating, you know what I mean right? Anyways, I just had to order a sushi roll as well to try the flavor, it was equally delicious! I can't wait to go back for more sushi and ramen and this time drinks! Note: The waiter did tell us they take last lunch call at 1:30 and then they close until 5pm- place is kinda small so you might have to wait and because its small also might have to wait outside. Luckily when we went it was full, and one table was clearing out, so we got to sit down right away. Yummy Ramen craving fullfilled! Happy Ramen Lover!

If you want traditional, incredibly high quality sushi, this is the spot. Japanese owned, very welcoming, very attentive staff and again, an extremely high quality of fish. If the fish at the docks is not up to their high standards, they won't buy or serve it. This is the only reason why you might see a "No Uni" sign on the front door occasionally. Also the best Ramen in town!!

Wow... are you kidding me? This place SUCKS now. My significant other and I came here last weekend, and we were sorely disappointed. It's sad because back in the day when I lived in Chino Hills, my family and I frequented this place A LOT. Perhaps, it's because I moved out to Los Angeles and have tried better food (especially Japanese), and my taste buds have changed. People may mistaken this for being good because there's not really any "competition" closeby, but I bet that if there were, this one would definitely close. (FYI, within a 15 minute radius, I still prefer Akasaka in Hacienda Heights, by the way). Anyhow, without digressing, I want to emphasize that this place is not good. Now, why, you may ask? [1] Well...first of all, this place is WAY overpriced. Who charges $16.95 for 6 slices of sashimi? That's insanely expensive, no matter how far from the ocean IE is. There are plenty of Japanese supermarkets around to get fresh sliced fish. That's the worse excuse to tell oneself I must spent $16.95 on six slices of fish. And $15+ for Chicken Teriyaki? [2] Second of all, one cannot eat well without spending more than $25 per person for INAUTHENTIC sushi. That's ridic. People who are spending that kind of money are extremely ignorant to pricing and how much Rokuan is charging. They're getting PLAYED. Significant other and I can get foodie "all you can eat" and more delicious sushi in LA (even in J-town) for about that price and it's more fresh and more authentic! My fiance got Ramen too, as a part of his meal and it came with a 1/2 sized California Roll. The Ramen & Roll were so small! What a joke! He also stated that he could have made this at home himself, for 25cents, and the bowl could have been double the size. TIP: If you want to pay that price, at least eat it at an authentic RAMEN place like Daikokuya or Shinsengumi. At least the waiters/waitresses are actually Japanese, and serve tasty Ramen that's double the size! [3] Third, horribly, snobby service. Do they really think they're the shit? Come on! My fiance and I got seats at the "sushi bar" and our server was kind of rude in a snobby spoiled way. One of them [he] specifically told me to move my chair in. And also when I had my purse on the table, I got a death stare from another waitress. [a she]. How ridiculously strange is that? Hello, I'm not in a communist country, and NO I am not perfect nor live in a 'Pleasantville' type of a life. In other words, don't judge me for little things. Also, stop butting in when my fiance and I are talking to each other. It's annoying. [4] Fourth, the so called sushi chefs don't talk to their patrons. Are you kidding me? In Japan and J-town (Little Tokyo) in Los Angeles, the sushi chefs laugh and talk to their customers! Some even take shots with them! Are you kidding, Rokuan? Are you too good for your customers? You're not authentic at all. And sad to say, the customers here don't know anything about what a Japanese restaurant should feel like. So sad. My fiance and I are disgusted at the lack of culture of this so-called sushi restaurant. I guess the words "SUSHI" in the front could have been a subtle hint, but because of old times (I thought), why not go back to try? Unfortunately, it was a FAIL.

Coming into Rokuan I was craving badly for some good ramen. The place was clean and relaxing. I ordered the spicy miso soup flavor, but received the pork flavor which I didn't mind. When the ordered came it was hot and ready. Overall, the ramen was good, the pork was full of flavor. It was decently priced because it included a side dish, but the portion was small.. And additions were quite pricey. I wish they allowed people to add extra noodles because I have quite the appetite.
(4)Karen L.
Dinner on Friday, 1/28/11 I walked in with my fiance and was seated very quickly. The restaurant isn't very big so our server came around frequently to attend to us. We ordered the uni (sea urchin), salmon sashimi, lobster sushi, amaebi (sweet shrimp) with soup, squid sushi, and hamachi (yellowtail) sushi. All the sushi came with large pieces of fish and small blocks of rice underneath. The amaebi sushi had large tender pieces of shrimp. The salmon sashimi order stated 6 pieces but it came with 8 pieces instead. They were nicely cut with marbled fat in every slice. I'm not a fan of the amaebi shrimp head so the soup was only okay. Everything else was delicious. Our total came out to $65 and we were both stuffed.

Came here through a friend recommendation and I loved their ramen! Their Tonkotsu Ramen broth is flavorful and has enough thickness to it. It's rich, but not fatty. I also had their Spicy Miso Ramen, it's more of a lighter broth than the Tonkotsu Ramen, but I still enjoyed it.

i cannot think of a more perfect day for ramen then a rainy day so today that's exactly what i did! on a sunday night this tiny restaurant is packed...and around 8ish...we were lucky enuf to get there before the wait list began...there's sushi bar seating or booth seating...our server was super attentive..so much that it was funny...while she didn't wanna be obvious about checking on us it was obvious because we sat in the very front of the restaurant...so unless she walks to us she can't see if we need help. She must have checked on us every 5 minutes which was pretty funny. But i digress...onto the food!! Kenneth L and i both got combos which is ramen + 1/2 a roll (usually 3 pieces) Spicy Hamachi Roll + Spicy Black Miso Ramen $12.70: now i'm not sure if this is a combo deal where u get half of everything...for sure half a roll but it was a small bowl of ramen...def not filling... They serve u the roll first...like an appetizer which i like...they come out quickly too..like less than 5 minutes after you order...mine (yellowtail) has a kick but is not spicy...that was dissapointing The ramen...nice kick but i wish it was spicier...it's very unique tho...there are peanuts in their ramen which i don't think goes as well as pickled vegetables...both of which i've never had in ramen...the meat is very tender and the soft boiled egg is perfect Spicy Salmon Roll + Tonkotsu (Pork flavor) Ramen $10.70: so this roll is not spicy at all and is nothing special..again 3 pieces The ramen is also served w/a wooden spoon...super cute! unfortunately they were all out of uni While the service is very good and the ramen delicious...the prices are a bit much...i would come back if i were in the area but i wouldn't go out of my way to get expensive ramen
(4)Midori H.
I love this place. Yes it's small but it's authentic. The service is super fast and your food is always hot. I'm really really picky when it comes to fresh fish. I have tried Ojiya down the street but once you eat Rokuan's fish, you won't be able to eat Ojiya's. You can just taste the difference. I recommend getting the tempura and sashimi combo.
(5)A L.
the ramen flavor is actually very good. not enough noodles though. my biggest problem with this place is the rude people that work there. they don't like little kids, they feel kids make too much noise and will let you know about it. they don't have a waiting area inside so even if it's freezing cold outside, they'll make you go outside. if you tell them there's 4 of you and 1 is not there, they won't sit you. even when we were all there sitting already, the asian lady that never smiles asked me again if we're all there already. i believe if i say i'm waiting for a person, she'll kick me out. Check out the place and you'll know what i'm talking about. The places cares only about 1 thing - get you sitted, served fast, and get you out.. zero customer service! So unfortunate since their tonkatsu ramen is actually not bad at all.
(1)Don L.
I have been coming here since 2007 always PERFECT great ramen sushi service awesome can't go wrong
(5)Jerome M.
First time for me dining at Rokuan. The cheese curry ramen was out of this world!!! The sushi crunch roll was also wonderful. The noodles were very good and the broth was not heavy or greasy!! Pay no attention to the nit pickers who look for things to complain about. This place is 5 stars all the way!!! Its a restaurant not a child care facility get over it!! I will definitely be back! The servers were very attentive and met our needs quickly.
(5)Vincent W.
If you like American Rolls, go to RA sushi. If you like nigiri, then you will probably like this place. The cuts of fish are fresh and generous and the rice is cooked correctly - a lot of sushi places serve you really cold rice. I also tried the tonkotsu ramen, which was just slightly above average. The highlight? They served me yellow tail belly. The main downsides for me was that the nigiri was a big too big to comfortably eat wit one bite and that the rice falls apart very easily.
(4)Robert T.
Limited menu, but high quality at a fair price. The Tonkatsu ramen is rich and creamy and definitely the highlight of Rokuan. Black miso is pretty good, as well, but not in the same league. I have only had the more Americanized sushi (spicy tuna, spicy scallop, Philly, spicy albacore, etc) but have been very satisfied. Have tried the tempura and really enjoyed it, though it is hard to mess up almost anything fried. The servers have always been exceptionally friendly and efficient. A rather small space, so expect a wait, usually 10 to 20 minutes, nothing too major. Not a great spot for parties larger than four, six tops. I like that they do not tolerate screaming brats. The chef/owner has a reputation for being on the surly side, almost a sushi Nazi, but I have not seen this in my seven or eight visits to Rokuan. It is a bit on the pricey side, but it is definitely worth a visit. Can't wait to try the new curry ramen. However, I am hooked on the Tonkatsu, so I usually get that. Warning: if you are seeking their famous uni sushi, they seem to be out more often than not. I have yet to indulge. Enjoy!
(4)Jorge S.
Taste is amazing, both Ramens are very rich in flavor. The rolls have one or two pieces less than most places out there, but taste great. The ramen bowls are also smaller than usual. Super fast service, ur food gets to you quick. A knocked out a star only because you can't get extra stuff in ur ramen, like extra noodles, and because it's a more pricy for less food. Nonetheless, this place has wonderful tasting food.
(4)Kent S.
I've only had the Ramen and a few bites of a buddies Unagi bowl. Both were amazing. Their Tonkatsu is solid. Broth is proper, toasted almonds for a nice crunch, and the pork is oh so tender! Service is on point too our group walked in literally 2 minutes before the sign on the door says the last customer will be served and they lived up to it. Pros: They are good at what they do. Cons: The place is small.
(5)Elizabeth S.
When you're trying to find this place, look for the big, lighted "SUSHI" sign. It only says "Rokuan" on their door. The place is very small. There's not a lot of tables and seats. If I remember correctly there's about 4-5 tables and there's about 8 bar seating available. I had the spicy miso ramen and it was delicious. The ramen tasted unlike any other ramen that I've had before. It was a dark broth that had a great amount of spice to it. I also got the salmon egg bowl to go with it and my friends and I ordered some of their Japanese beer. It was a pretty good experience and it was great because we were craving Japanese ramen. There's no other ramen place nearby that I know of that makes ramen like this. THe only thing that we wished was that they offer bigger bowls or offer extra noodles for $1 like the other ramen places.
(4)Rho L.
Ramen is great, sushi isn't bad, but the restaurant is really really small. Will definitely return as this place is probably the only place with good ramen in the area. I do recommend it!
(5)Tiffany T.
This is my favorite japanese restaurant in the IE. It is so rare to find a spot that serves such fresh fish being so far from the coast. On top of having amazing sushi, they also have amazing ramen. I know what you are thinking, good sushi AND good ramen in the same restaurant. Impossible, right? Thats what I thought until I tried Rokuan and was blown away. First off- the sushi here is fresh, tasty, and good sized. Their salmon, yellowtail, and scallop are buttery and tender. On top of being delicious, their nigiri pieces are larger than you would find at any other restaurant without compromising the quality. I have not got the chance to try their famed uni but I will next time around. I will say one thing though, I've tried their crunchy roll and lobster roll and did not like either. The rolls are a good size but a bit too dry and saucey for my taste. Maybe I'm just not a roll person but they were definitely mediocre compared to the nigiri offered. Next up, ramen! The black miso ramen is SO GOOD. This is the only place I've ever tried black miso ramen and boyyyyyyy, did I enjoy it. The broth is spicy and flavorful with all the tonkotsu fattiness. Toasted almonds also give the ramen good textural variety. The portion is modest but the quality makes up for it. Definitely one of the most unique and delicious bowls of ramen I've tried.
(5)Chenyi C.
Visited there with my wife, mother in law and my 3 years old daughter. Waitress only gave us 3 sets of tableware, I have to ask her to give us an extra set for my daughter. I asked her for high chair or booster, and she told me no, they do not have that. (This is the only restaurant I know which does not have high chair or booster) Food was ok, not excellent, service...no comment. For me, I will not visit there again because it is not child-friendly.
(2)Cindy L.
i have tried their ramen and sushi. they have a combo where you can get ramen and half or full rolls of sushi for a very decent price. i usually get the regular ramen but i have tried the spicy miso and the curry ramen. i say try all of them cause all 3 of their unique flavors esp the curry one. the flavors of the broth is in all of those types are really good but it is a tad bit salty but not so crazy where you cant taste anything but salt. ive had 2 of their bake rolls, salmon one and the one with the baby lobsters. both are very good. but what amazes are is the cut on the sashimi when i order the sushi. man the rice on those sushi is so little compare to other place and they do NOT hold back on those fish cuts. the cuts for the fish is thicker and longer (no dirty thoughts here :) ) than your average sushi place. a must try and have. i really wish they would open one up closer to where i live. but then again im glad they didnt.
(4)Kelly L.
This place has the best ramen and sushi! I took out one star because they do not add extra noodle just because of that. Cause both husband and son are noodle maniacs!
(4)Douglas O.
This is your ideal hole-in-the-wall ramen joint within a 25 mile radius. They've been open for years and I never knew about this restaurant. In my honest opinion, Rokuan shuts down a majority of the competition, including popular spots in LA. I consider myself lucky to live so close to an authentic ramen house. Reccommended this place to all my friends and family and they have not been disappointed! Get the tonkotsu!
(5)Charles T.
For $15.00, tip included, I got half a spicy hamachi sushi roll and a bowl of tonkotsu ramen. Both were surprisingly delicious. The service was great and they were very attentive. I would've gave them five stars if it was a tad bit cheaper but this a place where you could never go wrong. The ambiance is nice. The place is a bit small with several tables but the tables can seat up to 8 and there's also a counter right along where the chefs roll up the sushi. This place is a nice and quiet place and they even have signs reminding guests to respect other guests and try to keep the noise level down so others can enjoy their food. I'll definitely come back here again.

Could it be my first time having ramen? Yes. Probably one of the few people to not have engaged with ramen. Lawwwwd it was amazing. Tonkatsu with the lobster roll- excellent. Thanks friends for bringing me and showing the goods.
(4)Vicki V.
It was a cold night and my friends and I were craving some ramen. Who am I to turn down ramen?? I got the tonkotsu ramen with a half crunchy roll (3 large pieces). Sadly, they did not have corn. But it was still really good. :] Tried my friend's spicy miso ramen and it was burningggg. I guess I'm weak sauce, but just one spoonful of broth sent me coughing. The portions are a bit smaller than other ramen joints, but everyone was pretty full by the end of our bowls. The crunchy roll was good. Next time I come here, I'll have to bring a small bag of corn or something. Gotta have it!

Hello... After reading the review by Seiko, I'm ready to take my family and enjoy the wonderful food. Her insights and culinary knowledge have prompted me to investigate this Japanese restaurant in nearby Chino Hills... Thanks Seiko!

Great Restaurant with the best UNI !!!! loves the ikura bowl too~

Finally some decent sushi in the area! I think we completely over did it for five people, and boy we were stuffed. Btw the unagi nigiri, one piece is enough for one person. Trust me! What we ordered and highly recommend: -Hamachi sashimi -Salmon sashimi -Salmon Skin Salad -Hamachi Kama (take 25 minutes, but totally worth it) -Tempura (lightly battered, perfect) -Unagi -Amebi, with the fried heads!! -California Roll - real crab The con is the lack of wasabi and ginger. Despite all the food we ordered above we were only given one small ball of wasabi and a small plate of ginger. They wouldn't give us more as they would "charge" Now that's just BS. Hence the 4 stars instead of 5 stars. And they were out of uni.
(4)Kim T.
Yes, yes, yes!!! My prayers have been answered. Found this tiny little ramen place just down the street from my work, and it's not bad. Quite good, actually. Skip the spicy miso, and order the tonkatsu instead. The broth is delicious. You can have the ramen alone, or order it with a sushi combo for a few additional bucks. This has now become my favorite go-to for lunch.

I cannot believe that so many people love the ramens here...we tried both the Tonkatsu and the black miso, and neither tastes right. The broth of Tonkatsu has MILK in it: are you kidding me? Real Tonkatsu broth, of course, is slowly stewed for hours with pork bones, pig trotters, etc., and that's how you get that whitish, creamy, oily, insanely umami soup, and this restaurant was just trying to use milk and (I suspect) sugar to get a bit of that look and flavor, which is NOT working. The black miso is mediocre as well. Not bad, just completely unremarkable and without any distinctive flavor. The most disappointing item was the egg. A ramen egg, which I love, is NOT merely a soft-boiled egg. The yolk should be "trembling" instead of running, and it has to be marinated to acquire a subtly sweet flavor. The noodles look & taste like instant noodles, but given everything else in the ramen, it's hardly surprising. The other items we ordered--unagi mini bowl and langoustine rolls--are also not bad but unremarkable. The ingredients are fresh and taste fine, but the way they handle them is not even remotely authentic. I also think the design of the space is not optimal. The booths are super long but has very little space between the chair and the table. For two people sitting in there, it feels at once too big and too tight.
(2)Tiffany L.
I love rokuan! It's more on the pricier side but their sashimi is the best! The Japanese owner always looks like he's in a very sour mood and theres even a sign in English, Chinese, and Korean saying "please make sure your kids remain quiet", so be wary of that. There are also only four or five tables in total inside the restaurant so make sure to make reservations if you dont want to wait. The sashimi is really fresh and their servings are so generous! I love uni (sea urchin) and they seriously give you a huge slab of whatever it is you order. If you're a fan of raw fish, come try!
(5)karim j.
This place has some pretty good ramen. I recommend the miso based ramen. Sushi is good. They give you a lot of fish with not much rice...which is nice. Service is good...the staff isnt overly friendly...sometimes they seem rushed..but you cant blame them for things like that...its just super busy sometimes. Anyway. Check it out.
(5)Jaime Y.
Really? 4 stars? We've never been so disappointed with sushi.. My boyfriend and I came here for just two things: uni and unagi.. Uni was the worst I've ever had. It had no sweetness whatsoever. Unagi was the worst I've ever had. HOW DO YOU MESS UP UNAGI? -_- 1. It wasn't crispy 2. There was a fishy taste 3. It was drenched in sauce 4. Presentation was horrible.. very sloppily put together. Maybe we came on a bad night? I don't know, but we are definitely not giving this place another shot.
(1)Florence S.
So, I gave this place another chance... The first time I returned, there was no wait and was seated immediately. Food: Fish is fresh and portion size much larger than most, which is great. The ramen was pretty good but I mostly eat sushi. Service: Fast. They get you the food quickly. Ambiance: The place is decent and small. It is a good thing that they are fast with the food as this should help customers get in and out quickly since there isn't much space. We've been back several times since and have been happy with the food and is another go-to place for sushi.

I've enjoyed this restaurant ever since it opened and its only 3 blocks from my house. The food is exceptional! The only thing that is its undoing is its popularity. I have a 1 1/2 hour daily commute home & one of the things I used to look forward to at the end of the drive was picking up some dinner to go from Rokuan but, for more times than I can remember because I've lost count is they will not accept a to go order. Evidently they no longer need or want to deal with to go orders. I've driven in to the parking lot & see people waiting, but how hard is it to have someone prepare a few rolls to go for us tired commuters who don't have the time or the energy to go home & clean up only to wait outside a restaurant on a Friday night for dinner? I'm disappointed, and for that I've come to the realization that I'm going to have to find another Sushi Restaurant to drive through for my dinner. For this reason alone, I'm leaving 3 stars and not the 5 that Rokuan should have.

There aren't many 4 or 5 star rated restaurants in Chino (Hills) so I was excited to try this place out, especially if most people raved about the ramen. The restaurant is small! We ordered a rainbow roll with a tonkatsu ramen and half sushi roll combo. The half roll of spicy tuna came out almost immediately after we ordered it. I felt like we just got someone's leftovers. They could've at least waited a little so we would think it was made just for us. It was just your average spicy tuna. I'm probably one of the few people that would actually complain about the huge cuts of fish on the rainbow roll. More fish... Great, but the sushi pieces were huge and were difficult to eat. The staff was very attentive but almost to the point where it was a little too much. The ramen was good, but not worthy of 4 or 5 stars. I recommend Ojiya if you're looking for a good sushi place in Chino.
(2)Elizabeth T.
PROS: - This place is probably the best place to go for ramen around here! The broth is so flavorful and not watered down. It comes out steaming hot and fresh. I've tried both the tonkotsu and spicy miso ramen. They taste different but are both good. I have not tried their sushi. - The food comes in a Japanese-looking bowl with a wooden ladle and not a regular spoon, which adds an artistic flare to the experience. - The service is awesome. CONS: - The place is a small hole-in-the-wall so at busy times there might be a wait. - The spicy miso ramen is misleading because it wasn't that spicy.
(4)Ryan A.
I usually don't venture outside my favorite sushi places in chino hills: hayaci and ojiya. But I'm very pleased with Rokuan. They don't have the largest selection of sushi but they have great combos and tons of food! And I mean tons! When I see a combination platter that costs $15, I'm usually hesitant because most places don't give you enough bang for your buck. But this place is very generous with their servings! I was actually full and satisfied leaving and I don't ordinarily leave a sushi restaurant full. I have a black hole of a stomach when it comes to sushi but they filled me up and I was thankful. Oh yeah and great waiters too! I only wish this place had a bigger venue so more people can enjoy it!

NOT FAMILY FRIENDLY! Originally went here 6 years ago and was not impressed. Decided to give them another chance today when we were invited by friends. When we were seated we asked for a high chair or a booster for our son and they said they did not have any ...HMMMM, what restaurant does not carry high chair or booster for kids? But okay we could live with that, so we then asked to be seated at an available booth with a bench as it would be safer than having a 2 year old sitting in an adult chair. Two different servers asked the owner who said "No." They ended up giving the booth to a party of 2 who shared one ramen bowl from what our friends told us. Our family of 6 walked out. Not only did they lose the profit from a party of 6 to a party of 2, but they will not be getting our business in the future. Still disappointed just as much as I was 6 years ago..Customer service is pretty sad, so i will eat my ramen and sushi down the street at Kyala....
(1)Nathan F.
Yes, I love coming here for the food, the ramen is amazing. I only wish the portion was a tad bigger. Luckily my wife is small and I eat half of her bowl on top of my food. We come here often because the food is great, but we would come much more often if the service wasn't so weird.
(4)Nouur A.
You have got to be kidding me.... I don't know why these people are giving this place 5 stars... It seriously deserves 0!!! It was so dirty the employees dont even wash their hands! the sushi chefs should seriously wear hair nets because i found a gross hair in my food! Just a warning to u all the place is super small, and u feel so rushed!! As soon as u take ur last bite, the bill is on the table. Second of all, my fiancé ordered a soup and when it came it had meat in it, (which by the way was not mentioned on the menu) when we got the soup, he couldn't eat it for religious reasons and the waiter said "oh well there is nothing I can do" umm excuse me? Yes u can take it off our bill, he was so rude and stubborn and did not even do that! I even went back to give him some advice on improving their customer service and the stupid waiter just shrugged his shoulders and didn't even feel bad! Oh and he expected us to give him a tip... Screw u and ur stupid place! Stay as far away from this place as possible!! I'm reporting them to the health service people!

Sooooo good. Small portions for ramen lovers, but still fills you up. I get the ramen/sushi combos. Love that it's close to home. Good for lunch breaks if you're in the area. The family goes here often. Soy sauce broth (spicy) is on point! I'll be going back soon.

Eat uni
(5)Alice S.
Rokuan I miss you so much! Your delicious black miso soup and one of the few places with spicy salmon roll is the highlight of my weekends when I used to visit you. Your uni is also delicious and so are your sushi. I love you Rokuan because you never disappoint!
(5)Vania L.
Still the best ramen I've ever had in my life.
(5)Alicia T.
love this place! their uni is the best! service is great :)
(4)Mimi C.
4.5 ... close to 5 stars. =) Fish is incredible... ordered salmon, yellow tail and unagi --- I was mid sentence and took my first bite... forgot what I was talking about. Hubby was still talking and I quickly urged him to take a bite.. "Wow, it IS good!!" were the first words out of his mouth. Fish is so melt in your mouth tender and so subtle in flavor. Portions are fairly large but it doesn't feel bulky .. like at Asakasa in Hacienda Heights. Rice is warm.. and they don't give too much of it.. which I liked. Ordered a tonkasu ramen w/ rainbow roll combo ( $17.65). It was loaded with lots of flavor and ingredients. Egg costs and extra $1... it was good but not marinated. I loved the nuts that they added in cuz it made the dish more interesting. =) Good noodles... good broth --- just kinda fatty =P. LOVED the minimal seating / decor - reminded me of Echigo in West LA. :) ... it's my all time fav sushi place (minus the ones we've had in Japan). Things they could've done better -- Edamame was served freezing cold and unsalted. I like it warm and salted. Sushi bar closes promptly at 8PM. Some people came in.. wanting to sit at the bar, the sushi chef denied 'em. They left.. but I guess he has his standards! Go Chef!!

After going to multiple Ramen places, I can now fairly review how rokuan stacks in comparison. If the food department.... it's very good ramen, I've had other ramen in multiple locations in Pasadena, Los Angeles, San Bernardino, San Gabriel, etc. And i can easily put this on my top 3. They are quick, it's very simple, and yet there is so much flavor in their broth. The portion size is also good and I always have extra to take home, which I am not complaining about, that just means more ramen when I get home. The negative though is the fact that you can't take ramen to-go. You can with the sushi, just not the ramen. If you want to take ramen home, you have to order in and eat some of it before you take it home. I think that's how traditional ramen places are... but we are in america, you have to be willing to make adjustments to the place you locate to, if not, then why move at all? I think that will improve their business drastically if they allowed to-go for ramen. And the sushi pieces are smaller from a couple years ago, but that's not a big deal. Service is pretty good, I have noticed they improved on the quality, it's like they read their reviews and decided to fix it.... which is great. I give major props because the time we went, it was a full house and there was only one waitress. She was able to an age all the tables proficiently which can get hard, and she was very nice about it. Respect. I know I wrote a negative paragraph, and that would normally bring this down to a 4 star.... but 2 things bring it back up. 1) I said this is now at least the top 3 ramen I've eaten and 2) the service, it has improved from when I started coming hear a few years back. So if I see improvement, I will acknowledge it. So realistically, I'd give it a 4.5. But since yelp doesn't give .5's I round up. 5 stars.
(5)Jannie T.
This place is awesome. Black miso ramen is too spicy for my liking so I usually get the tonkatsu ramen. I love the tonkatsu ramen here! The broth is flavorful and almost kind of creamy and the portions are just right. I always get a half order of the langaustino (sp) roll or the spicy hamachi roll. Sometimes i get the geso karaage too. Ive tried their curry ramen which was good but i prefer the tonkatsu still. I might try the cheese curry ramen one day. I like their side of unagi bowl.. mmm! And I like their ikura nigiri. Someone complained about the prep for the ikura nigiri but I like that they give a big heaping for the ikura! Restaurant is small so go before or after rush hour. Restaurant says SUSHI on the front, not rokuan.
(4)k c.
This place used to be a good local option. Large portions and good variety. Supposedly they had big uni too which they're always "out of uni today" as a sign on the door proclaims. That temporary sign is there everyday. This was my ikura and lobster nigiri. Both terribly prepared. Also the service was lacking. So sad, just avoid.

I've heard great things about this place from my friends. It's a hidden spot that says SUSHI on the sign outside. We came in the daytime right before it was getting ready to close. We were quickly seated and handed menus. A small spot but the food comes quick. very simple menu of Ramen. two choices regular Tonkotsu and Spicy. Then you can combo it up with a different sushi or rice bowl. I went with the Tonkotsu with the spicy salmon handroll. The broth was nice and thick. The medium cut noodles were nice and chewy. The chashu was chewy. It's good but not the best I had. The spicy salmon handroll was good as well. Recommendation: Tonkotsu ramen and Spicy salmon handroll
(4)Miki W.
Can't go wrong with the ramen here. The sushi is eh but definitely known for their ramen. My fave is the black spicy miso... You'll crave for it!!
(5)Harry T.
VERDICT: Ok for the area, but I have yet to try other places to compare. QUALIFIER: Perhaps I'm spoiled coming from the South Bay with so many other great ramen options. FOOD: Decent, but I've had better spicy [black] miso ramen. Sushi selection was not that great, but a lot of care went into a very clean presentation. SERVICE: We were last seating on a weekday night, but they were courteous, and let us know what's on the menu.
(3)Samantha C.
Packed even at 8 at night but that's always a good sign! Tonkatsu ramen - The broth is surprisingly sweet! When I first tried it, I was like what the heck? But the more you eat it, the more accustomed you become to it and the sweetness begins to fade. The noodles on the other hand is different than most ramen places. It reminds me of cup of noodle ramen. yelp.com/biz_photos/roku… Black miso ramen - This is spicy!! I tried my friend's broth and it immediately hits you. It's has a spicy peppery taste. The flavors are really good though. Better than the tonkatsu but its too spicy for me. yelp.com/biz_photos/roku… Salmon Roll - California Roll with baked salmon on top. The salmon wasn't cooked all the way because part of it was still translucent. I didn't mind it though because it was delicious! yelp.com/biz_photos/roku… California Roll - Simple and classic yelp.com/biz_photos/roku… Salmon Teriyaki - Good but look at that salmon! The portions are so small! yelp.com/biz_photos/roku… Service is whatever. Friend ordered a beer and it never came so we just ended up canceling it. Food is still good though.

I have come to this restaurant for over four-years now, and every time it's worth the time and drive from Riverside. First, it's Japanese owned and managed, which reflects in the quality of fish and presentations, as well as the authentic Ramen noodles. I love the fish, especially the salmon, Hamachi, mackerel and lobster. The spicy Hamachi roll or hand roll is simply perfection. Perhaps the spider roll is ordinary, but the ingredients are not. As for the Ramen? The original is wonderful, but on a cold night, the curry version is the one to have. The husband in the owner team makes the broth, do authenticity is assured. The texture of the broth and noodles is perfect, and the shumai they add gives an added texture. While the servers have come and gone over the years, and not all have been the most attentive or trained, I cannot say it has marred any visit at any time. What hasn't changed are the chefs and enduring quality.
(5)Diana J.
THIS PLACE HAS THE BEST UNI! Every time i come, before i get out of the car i cross my fingers and hope they have uni or sweet shrimp that day. If I am super lucky, they will have both. I come here and only order the nigiri, I've had the ramen and its average in my opinion. The size of the nigiri here is unbelievably huge. The Uni: I've never been served uni this fresh and sweet. Not only is it of quality, they load on the UNI for you so much that it's literally falling off the sides The sweet shrimp: soo plump and juicy. The sweet shrimp here is so fresh that it's got a crunch to it. Unfornately, the waiter said they took it off the menu since it's not up to their quality standards NOOO The Anago: this is so much better than the typical Unagi. Its a salt water eel compared to the typical fresh water eel. It's much more tender and buttery. Definitely give it a try, I can never go back to eating Unagi now. The Saba: this is a Japanese mackerel that is smoked. It's extremely fishy tasting rich with oils, it's a love it or hate it thing. They serve it here with a piece of rice paper over it so the flavors are very balanced. Yellowtail sashimi: thick slices of sashimi for a good price. Very fresh and always satisfying. Overall, rokuan is one of my favorite places to get my sushi fix but only when they have their uni (which is rare now) :(
(5)Phuongngan B.
Ramen is decent if you're picky and pretty good if you're desperate! The black garlic and almond are nice touches. I've never eaten at a place that adds almond to their ramen and the black garlic seems pretty uncommon in this area. Works well though :) Reasonably priced, under $10 for ramen. Plenty of parking.
(4)Pauline C.
Yummm! I've been hearing great things about this place! I'm sad I didn't come when I was hungry. :( What I Ordered - Half Size Spicy Black Miso Ramen - Spicy Salmon Roll - Salmon Sushi The Spicy Black Miso Ramen was delicious!!! It has just the right amount of kick! The noodles were cooked perfectly. I was very surprised that there was still broth leftover the next day with the ramen. I would have thought the noodles would soak it all up! It still tasted good the second time around. ^_^ The Salmon was very fresh! I will be back! Note: The place is small so there will be a wait! They don't seat you until your whole party is there! Even if you're only a party of 3.
(4)Lynne L.
This is the best place for raw sushi in chino hills. Especially the quality of their uni, which frequently sells out. This is also the best ramen spot, and they offer combos. My fave is their spicy miso ramen, which is still a little too spicy for me. But it's that damn good that I'll keep eating it even though my stomach is gonna hate me later. They also have really good deep fried shrimp heads when you get an order of amaebi... and they're biggggg heads. =)
(4)Good O.
So disappointed! The ramen is tasting bad. This is the horrible sushi restaurant I've been.
(1)Gus H.
Below average for a Japanese owner sushi... The worst is his service. Poor and rude service. Four sushi combinations and they first forget to bring wasabi !! Then they just bring one and I told them we were three so the guy brings 2 more.... But wait a minute 1+2=3 WE ORDERED 4 sushi combinations moron! I bring this up to the waiter and he says u can share... What the FREak. I have to share a small plate wasabi ?? We can't have our own tray?????? NOT WORTH IT. BUT IF YOU LIKE TO SHARE THE WASABI THEN... Enjoy!

I don't normally eat ramen in chino hills, but my girlfriend and I were in the area and were craving a decadent bowl of ramen noodles. So Rokuan is where we ended up. The exterior does not display the name, instead it says "Sushi," but don't be alarmed this is Rokuan. Once inside it only takes about 25 steps to go from the front to the back of the restaurant. Yah it's that small. We were seated and given menus. We both decided on the pork broth ramen with 3 pieces of sushi each, cali rolls and the crunch rolls. I did like the fact that the ramen came with sushi. The sushi came out first and it was fresh and better than most of the sushi I've had before. I especially liked the crunch rolls which had crab inside. The ramen was brought out promptly and I immediately noticed how creamy the broth looked. Much different from the ramen I normally get in LA. I asked the waiter for a side of noodles and he stated that the restaurants policy does not allow him to do that. Hmmmm really? Ok. The taste of the broth is decent, not overly seasoned and not spicy at all ( the waiter recommended this broth over the other stating that the other broth was very very spicy) we both added chili flakes into our ramen and it was better. I definitely needed the extra noodles that I was not granted because I finished my noodles in a matter of minutes. A group of people came in and sat behind us and I overheard one asking for extra noodles and was also denied and also made a few comments about the lack of seasoning in the ramen. Overall the sushi was the best part of my dining experience. The ramen was ok nothing that would make me want to come back, and I don't like the fact that I can't get extra noodles! Come on really??
(3)Ana L.
This place is hidden and super small inside. The sign outside of the building states Sushi not Rokuan. Which i feel is a better name. I wanted noodles so bad and this place is not bad at all. The menu was a lil confusing but the nice waitresses was kind to explain it to us. The broth is good. I would come back.
(4)Tiffany C.
My boyfriend and I came in right when they opened for dinner so we were seated quickly and food came out fast. We got the black spicy miso and tonkostu ramen. They were both very good. Full of flavor. However their portions are small for the price they have. They also don't do take outs for ramen. I gave this place 3 stars because the service is definitely lacking. After they serve your food, they won't check up on you even if they have nothing to do. Also the atmosphere in there is VERY AWKWARD. No one talks in there and there's no music. The hours of operation are very unusual too. If it wasn't for the food, I wouldn't be back here.
(3)Corey P.
I declared out loud that Rokuan made some of the best ramen I had eaten in a long time. The restaurant is pretty small, but can be a very intimate setting. This place was consistently busy during dinner time and people bring their families here. Children for the most part were kept under control. The staff was friendly and although the restaurant wasn't particularly romantic, it was clean. The menu is set up so you order a bowl of ramen and can add an additional side dish. Prices range from $9 to $18 depending on the combination of things you get. I got a bowl of ramen and a full order of California Rolls. The ramen came out piping hot, it was aromatic from the onions and fried garlic. The broth was savory and had a wonderful pork flavor. It was so well flavored and the egg was beautifully soft boiled, the most beautiful and delicious I've ever had from a ramen shop. The California Rolls were standard fare, but served it's purpose to fill me up. The final bill was about $12-$13 and I was pretty satisfied. The presentation, taste, and experience were all pleasing. I know this place is known for it's sea urchin, but they ran out the evening we were there. Come check out Rokuan if you want a delicious bowl of ramen. I look forward to coming back with my girlfriend.
(4)Daniel S.
The ramen here has been excellent from day one and they continue to innovate with spicy garlic sauce, curry, and other specialty ramen flavors you usually have to drive to Torrance or little Tokyo to find. I love their addition of poke to the menu of side dishes!
(5)Crystal A.
The best Ramen in the area. Chino Hills, Diamond Bar, Walnut, Pomona. This is it! We always have to arrive once the doors open, or there will be a wait. The tables go fast, because the food is that good. I like Ramen here better than at Daikokuya and Foo Foo Tei. And the sushi is not half bad either. The pieces of sushi are generously large, and even stacked high into a pile. The one disappointment is the tempura. Sushi and Ramen are so tasty here, but our tempura came a bit undercooked. I think the best thing to get is the Ramen combo, with a choice of sushi roll or other side. I am such a fan!

THIS IS MY GO-TO SPOT IN Chino Hills from now on!!!!! TONKOTSU RAMEN: The broth was fucking amaaaaazzzinnggg!! Their pork broth was light and not heavy :D I can tell their broth was a homemade recipe because of all the herbs they added to enhance the flavor of the broth such as the dried onions...THAT alone gave the soup such a good aroma and flavor. The ramen also came with a very decent of noodles :D LONGISTINO: The baby lobster (aka...crawfish) portion was very generous :) they gave us so much baby lobsters over the roll that we started picking at the baby lobsters at the end Lol. The crab meat inside the roll was perfectly made. Chili sesame oil and siracha... perfect ratio!!!! Half size is 3 pieces. Full size roll is 6 pieces. For the price....it was too good to be true!!!!! The sauce they made the baby lobster with was very creamy and had a small kick of spiciness to it. It burst out with flavors once it hit the top of my tongue @-@ THIS WAS THE SHIZNITX!!!! CURRY RAMEN: THE BEST CURRY IVE HAD YET. Im not a big curry fan but this is too good to pass!!!! The curry was slightly watery but also thick. It was also very light. It wasnt as heavy as other spots ive tried. The wontons that came in the soup was THE BEST THING in the broth lol. It was semi sweet, tangy, and very flavorful. In my opinion..the wontons..were the best thing in the soup. Very good amount of ramen. The only thing that kinda thru me off was the ground beef that was in the soup. I almost choked on it cz it caught me off guard LOL. Other than that.. I LOOOOOVVVEEE THIS ONE! !!!!! SEA EEL: Very light. Not as sweet as the fresh water eel. It has the eel sauce drizzled on it but it was not overly sweet as the fresh water eel. I DEFINITELY recommend this. I was kind bummed out cz they were sold out on Uni and Ameabi :( I will come back to give those a try ^-^ SERVICE: GREAT, FAST, VERY ATTENTIVE, RESPECTFUL, NICE. Their service was beyond what I imagined. Make eye contact and theyll ask if everything is ok.. thats how quick they are. DECOR: Semi modern. They have 5 HUGE LONG booths that can fit up to 8 people :) COME EARLY!!! People already wait outside before they open :D FFFIIIVVVEEEE STAAAARRRRRR!!!!
(5)Zeno R.
If this is your first time here you should try a Tonkotsu Ramen, their most popular dish, it's really flavourful. You can order a combination of Ramen and Sushi but I don't recommend that, it's too much food and Sushi is not their strongest thing. Other Ramen options include Black Miso (which is pretty spicy), Curry and Curry Cheese (which are not on the menu and it's pretty good as well). Food overall is great but don't expect an amazing service here.
(4)Arnold W.
I've been here three times now and each time has gotten worse. First, the ramen is good, especially the black miso. It's kind of special. But it's a little oily. Come to think of it it's pretty expensive. Although the sushi rolls are huge, 6 rolls is a full roll. And the service isn't very personable. There is usually a wait so make sure you get there right when opens.
(3)Emily C.
Why must we wait on a Sunday night? What's the hold-up? I was hungry, cold and a bit cranky because of it but I am still very glad my boyfriend took me here. It almost makes the wait worth it once I let the ramen warm me up! Tonkotsu Ramen was delicious with a rich broth that didn't taste fatty to me. Unfortunately, it doesn't come with an organic soft-boiled egg like the Spicy Miso Ramen. The Spicy Miso Ramen was really one of the spiciest broths I've had thus far. The chili peppers, the chili oil... that stuff goes straight up your nose and makes you want to cry. I'm not a weaksauce, and while I'm not the type of person to go for spicy challenges, this was pretty strong stuff. That being said, I still loved the broth and it was so addicting! Though I had to eat more slower than my boyfriend and his Tonkotsu Ramen. The pork that came with my ramen was delicious and dare I say... high quality? It's not the tough sort of meat you get in other places and each bite is a wonderful balance of fat and meat with a real distinct bite. The egg was food pr0n for sure! I think the nearby customers and one of the sushi chefs thought I was weird for taking a picture of the yolk slowly oozing out of my perfectly soft-boiled egg at various ooze-intervals. I guess I made it weirder by saying "Oh mai gawd, look at this. Nom. NOM NOM" in a weird monster voice... Noodles were crinkled and the whole bowl of ramen was one of the best I have had in a while and though it is a smaller bowl, is quite impressive overall. We also opted to have a half roll with our ramen ($12.95 Combo!) and I had the Langostino Roll, which was quite different in the sense it had a dense and not watery mayo and had generous amounts of baby lobster. The Crunch Roll was also pretty good. If only they didn't have such huge booths, the wait wouldn't be as long since most are parties of 2, but what can you do?

My favorite Ramen place. I mean, what can i say, its simply the best.

Seems like family owned business and can be more cleaner n organized. Food was good though. Ordered the new curry ramen which was really tasty. Also got baked salmon roll and dragon roll. Their rolls were huge. But overall a good experience

Came here more often than before during weekend lunch and it was better than before. Service is fast and attentive even when they were busy. Ramen is always delish, just a tad smaller for the price. Will go back for dinner and try their sushi bar.

3.75 stars Came here for the first time the other night. Nice small restaurant sushi bar seating. Came at a good time because my friend and I were immediately seated upon arrival. Full rolls of sushi are a little higher than other places, but still tastes good. I had the tonkatsu ramen with the half roll of spicy tuna. My friend that the black miso ramen with the half roll of spicy salmon. We both enjoyed our food and were full afterward. Service was great. This place is for you are craving any of the two soup flavors. Go elsewhere if you want other flavors. I would definitely come back here.

I've been coming here for a little under a decade now. Much has changed. The service in the earlier days was mainly the boss-lady (as my family and I usually call her). The sushi chef behind the bar is her husband, the boss-dude. The sushi hasn't changed much. They give large healthy portions and have a variety of traditional rolls. My family and I would always order the Langustino Rolls, which had langoustine meat cooked in some kind of dynamite mixture on top of a California Roll. We would also order the sweet shrimp with shrimp miso soup. I always get the shrimp miso soup here because they include actual onions and other vegetables in the soup, something few restaurants actually do! The shrimp is always sweet and crisp, the freshness is very much present! We get a variety of other rolls and dishes. MY FAVORITES: I really like the langoustine roll as I previously mentioned. However, my favorite dish is the Monk Fish Liver. They usually have it, but it is market priced for only a few pieces. The light soy sauce and onions they put on the liver steaks bring out the sweetness of the monk fish liver! It is so delicious. My other favorite is the tuna tataki. It contains lightly seared tuna with a sweet-salty-sour soy sauce on top with sprouts and onions. Absolutely Delicious!! RAMEN: The ramen is a more recent addition to the menu. (I think it was introduced only a few years ago). I really like the spicy black miso ramen because it has an egg in the ramen that really tames down the spiciness of the soup. This soup is really well seasoned and is fun to eat. The regular miso soup is really tasty because the meat has a really nice sweetness to it. SERVICE: Back in the day...it was amazing. The boss-lady was extremely attentive and kind. However, she now works with her husband behind the bar, so they hired so unprofessional college students to do the hosting work. One guy basically kicked us out of the restaurant because he didn't want us to wait inside to be seated. It was a really cold night, and honestly, we're Californians, we aren't used to the cold! We saw that there wasn't a lot of space to wait inside and were heading out. All of us were heading to the door, and the male server tells us, "You guys NEED to wait outside." I said, "Yeah we're heading out!" And, he replied. "You guys can't just crowd up the entrance." Well....he should have listened to us....I told him we were heading out so that there would be more room!

A good place for big portioned food and amazing good quality ramen and sushi. I'm my opinion I believe this is the best ramen place in chino hills
(5)Rho L.
I've always found it odd that with all the asian eateries popping up and about Chino Hills, I've yet to find a decent ramen spot in the area. I've tried ramen from at least two local restaurants and both left me extremely disappointed. I brought the two kids because they absolutely love ramen. That and I can justify ordering more items when I have people with me -- even if they don't touch any of the other orders. I ordered two tonkatsu ramen, a teriyaki salmon with tempura veggies and a half order of california rolls. Yes, obviously, we aren't looking for the authentic sushi experience. Our orders came quickly and we all noticed that the restaurant began to fill with hungry patrons. I think we came at the right time, a few minutes shy of 530PM. By 545P the place was packed. The two kids seemed to thoroughly enjoy their bowls. The noodles were softer than I'd typically like, but the broth was very good. It wasn't laden with salt and actually carried a true pork-y flavor. In it, I saw decently sized cuts of pork and veggies. No egg though. I was a bit disappointed in that. Maybe that was an add on option. The teriyaki salmon, although small in size, was moist and delicate. Tempura veggies could have shown more variety in veggies. I only got zucchini and potato, literally. That was a bit disenchanting. California rolls were OK. Overall, most of the credit would be due to that comforting bowl of ramen. I hear great things about their sashimi/ sushi so that in addition to more ramen, would be my next purpose for a visit.
(4)Estella L.
Totally below the average..... I can't believe they serves sashimi like that. The sashimi was not fresh and you can easily see from the picture. The price is totally NOT reasonable for the food they serve. Maybe the ramen is better?
(1)Hugo M.
If you want some delicious noodles and some good quality fresh sushi, this is the spot. Don't let the location and size fool you. This place is outstanding.
(5)Vanessa V.
'Twas my second visit here tonight. Got the curry ramen special with the mini unagi bowl, and it certainly didn't disappoint. The curry broth was thick and flavorful, and the unagi was so tender. I love that hot tea is also complimentary here.
(5)Michael S.
Curry Ramen and Cheese Curry Ramen have been added to their selection as of my last review. For the past several months I have ordered the Cheese Curry Ramen weekly. The Cheese Curry Ramen comes with a Japanese curry base, green onions, potatoes, ground beef, deep fried fishcake shumai (Not sure what they're called - they're good though), and shredded Gouda cheese. The regular Curry Ramen is the same as the cheese sans the cheese. Recommend if you like Japanese curry and want to try something different!
(5)Marian F.
This is probably the only place I would go to for great ramen. I've tried Ajisen Ramen before and Hub Place in Walnut back when it used to be open, but this place by far in my opinion has the best tasting ramen. Sushi is pretty good too. =) Will be coming at least once .or twice a month.
(5)Sam L.
Uni Heaven!. Come for the Uni! The portions are enormous! Stay for the ramen. Excellent. Highly recommended!

A couple of key factors make Rokuan a great place - Great sushi bar, quality ramen and key location because let's face it, there are not a ton of great sushi/ramen places in the Chino Hills area. Unfortunately, although the food is good, service is slow and weird, which can make your dining experience rather awkward. I came to Rokuan last night with high expectations. I arrived with my fellow rabble rouser pharmacist friend at 5:45pm on a Tuesday night. The restaurant was empty with the exception of one table. We were greeted by the server who before even asking how many was in our party, asked us "is your entire party here?" We had one more friend on the way so the answer was no. The server gave us a grave look and stated "I cannot seat you until your whole party is here." Although there were plenty of tables available, they didn't want to seat us according to restaurant policy, which is fine... so we waited outside for our friend to arrive. Once we were seated, they took our order rather quickly since there was only two parties in the restaurant and the food came out pretty fast. I got the black miso spicy ramen which was pretty good and had a nice burning spice taste to it. My companions got the tonkatsu ramen which was also pretty tasty (I snuck a spoonful during the meal). The spicy tuna roll was unimpressive though. We were celebrating our get together and various life events (engagement, new job, gaining certification) so one of our friends brought a little pudding dessert from a local bakery. As soon as she took it out to show us, the waiter came by and reprimanded us for having this and told us we cannot bring this to the restaurant. As a sort of rebel, I figured to hell with it, and I starting eating it anyways. Then one of the kitchen staff who barely spoke English appeared from no where, wearing a dirty apron, and gave me the "no no, tsk tsk" finger shake and took the dessert away! I wouldn't say that the service is rude or that the ramen wasn't good... because I was being a bit of a trouble-maker. All I will say is that they strictly enforce their rules and policies, and they will make sure that they are followed, even if that means losing a future customer.
(3)Cherry S.
The Tonkatsu Ramen was good, nice portion, tender noodle, soup was a bit salty but over all, tasty. The service could improve in other hand, I asked a ice water when we placed our order but it never came.
(4)Jimmy D.
First time here and the food was pretty good. I read the reviews and expected to way a long time but we got in in about 10 mins. I had the pork broth and it had flavor. The spicy tuna was better than some of the other sushi places I've been to. The only con would be that they did not have a kids menu. It did not matter thou my son still ate what we ordered for him. The service was fast but could be a little more friendly. Overall not a bad experience.
(4)Cindy L.
Good good, worse service. The waitress seems always rush and don't have time to take care of customers.
(2)Anonymous L.
I only come here for the uni, and it is amazing. Everything else is so-so. You have to call prior to arriving though, they don't have it every day and when they do, they sell out very quickly.
(3)Elizabeth S.
For $9.95, you can get a bowl of ramen and a half order of a roll of your choosing, I usually get California roll. Their Tonkotsu ramen is delicious here. Broth is flavorful and creamy, the size of the bowl is a bit on the smaller side. Place is small. The booths can get uncomfortable. The service was slow and not really attentive. The last time I was there, they brought out my check even when I'm not half-way done with my meal.
(3)Albert L.
At first glance, Rokuan looks like nothing special - its a small store with only the words "SUSHI" at its storefront to distinguish itself at a supermarket anchored shopping plaza. I found myself quite surprised to find out that Rokuan is much more than its humble looks suggest - if your main purpose to come here is more for the ramen than the sushi. For $9.95, I had a regular bowl of tonkotsu ramen here and a half roll of California Rolls...compared to many Japanese restaurants I've been to, this is a pretty good price. While I found my California rolls to be a bit dry and the tonkotsu ramen to be a bit lacking in size, there is no doubt the ramen itself tastes awesome. I'm not sure if it's the inclusion of roasted peanuts and seaweed (you won't find that in many places), but the broth of the tonkotsu ramen has a base that is neither too thick or too thin and is just plain delicious. The pork slices were also a positive due to the large size of the slices and had their nice, smokey flavor. I also found the service here to be quick and friendly and the seating booths to be quite roomy. For a small and obscure looking restaurant, Rokuan is a well-valued experience.

This is one of my favorite sushi places in the area. I have taken so many people here. The fish is fresh and everything is delicious. It's a bit on the pricey end, but, hey, that's what you have to pay for good sushi. Ambiance:Very cozy and quiet. There is a small sushi bar, about 8 seats, but only parties maximum of 3 can be seated there. There are about 6 tables in the whole restaurant, pretty intimate. The tables and seats are all wooden, giving it the traditional Japanese feel. One thing I like about this place is that they have signs everywhere telling parents to keep their children down. I think this notion that you should keep your child's wailing down in public should be a universally understood thing, but for some reason, it never is. I love children as much as the next gal, but I don't want to hear some child crying next to me while I try to enjoy my meal. I don't mean to be a bitch, but the restaurant should really enforce this sign, the last time I was here, a child was screeching at one of the tables. And given the small space of the restaurant, it was rather ear-piercing. So, one star down for being hypocrites. Price: The total for 2 was around $100. We ordered about 6 servings of sashimi which cost about $17/each for 6 (generous) pieces. Service: Service is top notch! Very attentive and fast. Food & Drinks: I've never had the ramen here, but my entire family absolutely LOVES it. My brother says it's the best ramen he has ever had. As for me, I LOVE the sushi here. The fish is delicious! Just try it for yourself. Overall: Very good authentic sushi and ramen. They have traditional times, lunch, break, dinner. So keep in mind the hours when going to Rokuan.
(4)Ruby Z.
No uni, no caterpillar roll. Are you kidding me?! Everything is not fresh except sweet shrimp. The ramen tastes worse than last time. I won't be here again, seriously.
(3)Shawn S.
I heard the sushi chef was a ninja back in his homeland japan. great food! i recommend eating the languinstino sushi because we all love eating lobster babies for dinner.
(5)BB A.
We highly recommend Tonkatsu ramen n the beef teriyaki. This place is small but very neat, the service is very good. We usually only go to Kamon, but now I think we have a new place to dine for Japanese food!
(5)Tanya T.
I am a fan of Japanese food. I've tried lots of sushi and ramen places in LA. Rokuan definitely stands out. I would give a six star if I could! Fresh raw fish, fast service, great presentation of food, and reasonably priced everything. They don't put extra sauces on the food which allows you to savor on the original flavor of fish. If you like something authentic, this is the place to go!
(5)Joseph Z.
Decided to try this place out after reading some great reviews from y'all fellow Yelpers! The Tonkatsu ramen and uni sushi is delicious! The uni sushi is silky smooth like icecream. Mmmm I will be back to try the curry ramen next time!
(5)Albert L.
Went here for lunch and got the Spicy Black Miso Ramen and Albacore Tataki combination and I left very happy! The Albacore Tataki was good and I felt the portion was pretty worth it. The sauce was tasty, not overpowering, and matched well with the albacore. The Spicy Black Miso Ramen was yummy. The broth was slightly spicy (I say on a scale of 1-10, a 3.5) and very tasty! So tasty that I was actually drinking the soup more than eating the ramen! I noticed the soup had some goji berries so it is healthy as well! The pork meat was also very tender though it was a little fatty. The noodles were good but I think the black miso is what made it good for me. I would definitely come back to get this ramen again! The place isn't that big and it was almost full by the time we go there which was around 1pm. There was only one waiter working and he was very busy running around trying to take care of everything. The service wasn't bad but we did have to ask for a box a couple of times but I wouldn't dock any stars for that. Overall, I would definitely come back!

Came here for dinner on Saturday and there was no wait. Got a tonkatsu ramen with half crunch roll combo for $11.45. The soup has a nice mild salty taste and even though there is ton of fat floating on the top it didn't make me feel sick after slurping it all down. The crunch roll was also very nice with lots of fake crab thingies. Server was attentive, but not intrusive. Ok so everything is pretty good and this really should deserve more like a 3.5 star in my book, but the problem is the portions are quite small imo:( I left feeling hungry!. I dont eat a lot and most ramen places I have had, I rarely ever finish them and they didn't have the option to add extra ramen so bummer... But really it tasted good so you all should give it a try.
(3)Glen F.
I heard it was a good place so we tried it. It was very busy and the service was poor. We mostly ordered sushi, but also had Ramin. Sushi was just so, so. Not a very good selection of sushi. The sushi prices were very high considering the plain, casual atmosphere. The Ramin was good, but expensive IMO for ramin. Our 2 kids usually love sushi, but not this place. We won't be back.
(1)Tina M.
We found this place on Yelp because we were craving ramen and I'm glad we came here! I got the pork broth and it was was really good. The noodles were a little overcooked but I personally like harder noodles. We also ordered sushi which was only OK. Not bad but not really that great either. I probably wouldn't order sushi here again. Service was quick and our food came out very fast. This place is small so be prepared to wait on busy nights.

BLUF: Don't waste your money or your patience at this place - it's not worth it. Heard good things, so took the trip out to this dark corner of Chino Hills. Gotta look carefully, because the sign only exists on the door... as though they don't really care about marketing. It resembles the staff's attitude as soon as we walked in too. They sat us soon enough, but they immediately wanted us to order and when I asked for a few more minutes, he just stood there looking at me... So, we ordered. There was no water service until I asked for it and don't even think they'll give you a refill - had to ask twice while an empty glass sat on the edge of the table for almost ten minutes. Suddenly, a plate of rolls came out and when we asked what it was, the waiter retorted: well, what did you order? I asked again, what it was and he said he had no idea. There's also a very distastefully LARGE sign above the sushi bar that reads: Please keep your children under control and quiet so people can have pleasant experience... (or something like that). Well, there was a rather large family with kids going nuts - and I didn't see them do anything about it. Oh, and BTW - They were out of uni. The ramen was good (I've had better), but the portion was so small, I left feeling hungry, even after a roll. (BLUF: "bottom line up front")

Came here for lunch yesterday. I know it was a hot day, but had a ramen craving... I got the tonkatsu ramen with a spicy salmon handroll, which thankfully wasn't that spicy. I think that totals to 11.75 or so. Coworker got the black miso soup with spicy scallop, which he said was really spicy, but good. The spicy scallop was way too spicy for me, I'm guessing there was a lot more sriracha sauce in that than the salmon. We were also provided with hot green teas, which get refills. We both agreed on the roasted almonds in the broth being a fantastic touch. I was trying to fish all of them out! I suppose I should point out that you get the soft boiled egg for free if you get the black miso. Bummer is that you can't order ramen to-go. So probably not a good idea if you only have half an hour for lunch.
(4)Linda C.
I have to say this has to be my favorite ramen spot and drive 30 mins out to chino hills every time I am in the mood for ramen, however, after yesterday's experience, I may just make a few less visits to Rokuan. I am definitely giving 4 1/2 stars for the amazing ramen and their distinctive taste in the broth. Although, the portion could be a little bigger for $8.95. 1 star for their poor service. I am always raving about how amazing the food is here so I decided to invite 2 of my childhood friends to experience what this place is all about......... And wow, extremely unfriendly staff. They even made us, a party of 3, pass over the plates/bowls to the servers because they were simply lazy to lean in at our table. Really? We were definitely NOT the difficult customers that were demanding orders or so many requests. Actually, all we asked in addition to our meals were straws for our beverage because they forgot to place that down on the table when bringing our drinks. No biggie, I'm not giving them a hard time for that. My point is, we were a small group with simple orders. What was with their unfriendly attitude? As a matter of fact, we observed the servers behaved the same with other guests as well. If the owner of Rokuan takes the time to read the reviews on here, please carefully choose wisly in the staff you hire and coach them to provide better service and to be friendly. The food is great and I will continue to rave about the ramen you serve here, however, the service definitely needs to step it up 10 notches. Your business would have more success with a higher rating.

They always sell out of uni. I just expect it nowadays. I've generally liked Rokuan and have been a patron for many many years. I've always ordered their sushi and ramen combinations, but tonight we opted to try the dinner combination with teriyaki prime beef with salmon shio. That meal runs $20 and includes a small salad and a miso soup. The portions are so so tiny. If they are going to charge that much, they should at least make it worth it. Disappointed. Update... My husband got food poisoning. Ugh!!!!
(1)Party_of_five _.
Had dinner here and I was pleasantly surprised. The tonkatsu ramen was delicious - very flavorful and not too heavy or greasy. We also ordered the black miso ramen. Spicy and also flavorful. The quality of beef is good as well. My only compliant would be the service - I felt like they were in a hurry and it made us feel rushed. Not the most kid friendly place either. I'd definitely go back for some ramen though. Came back and service was even worse this time around. Servers need to be trained in customer service and politeness. I don't care how good the ramen is, it's not worth it if the people who run the place don't know how to deal with costumers.
(1)Jenna T.
I've been here 10+ times and I love the ramen. However, this place only deserves a 3-3.5 stars over all. And here's why. SERVICE: 1-2 stars. It is pretty terrible, especially if it's busy. A lot of servers seems to not have any serving experience. Some are very inattentive and some will check up on you every few minutes and ask questions while you're chewing your food. You HAVE to ask for water refills ahead of time cause they tend to forget. Going here to eat is like training the servers. I have to constantly ask for the little things such as, chopsticks, wasabi and soy sauce, for more water or even menu. FOOD: 4 stars. I'm in love with their Spicy black miso, it got that perfect spiciness that I cannot find at any other ramen places. I've been recommending this to all of my friends. Sushi rolls are plain, very simple and easy to make so it might not be worth it to those that likes fancy rolls. I do like their combo option where you can combine ramen and half or full roll for a cheaper price. HOURS: 1 star. I stay in Chino Hills quite often and every time I want to eat, this place is CLOSED! Not sure why they decided to close at 8:30 ( a lot more people are eating later now a days ). They used to close at 9, and I would forget until last minute and rush there at 8:40. Now, usually restaurants have to take you in until closing time. That means that customers are welcome until 9PM NOT we are trying to get out of here by 9. They would refuse so many people that comes late. Personally that's not a good business and they don't seem to care much about building connection with their customers. Not only that, they even close in the middle of the day. PS- If you want to check out their food, please make sure they are open first before making a trip out. I love the food but dislike everything else :D
(3)Mel M.
We used to love this place. Back to the old days, they had a good quality of sushi. The uni sushi was so big and soooo good! There was usually long line waiting outside the restaurant. Dunno what happened. Both quality and quantity of sushi have changed. We will not go back again
(3)John P.
4 stars for food. Service use to be a 5 star but I don't what happened, but it has lost its good servers. Unfortunately after today's experience, I'll have to say it's down to a 1 rating. RIP Rokuan
(3)Emily L.
My fiancé and I are big ramen lovers. We decided to give this place a try because it was close to our house. Here's what we thought: Ramen: tonkotsu ramen- soup base was pretty good. Black miso ramen- too spicy to taste anything else. Very minimal toppings in the ramen, felt like there wasn't enough. Uni: sold out tonight Price: quite expensive for a mediocre ramen place. A ramen is about $9 and you can add a roll, handroll, mini bowl, etc to make one persons meal about $13-$20. That's pretty expensive. Customer service: our only request was to have no green onion on one of our ramen, guess what there was green onion in it and there was a lot. Fail. I'm giving 3 stars because I may go back for ramen again. But probably only ramen.

This is an amazing place to get some incredibly fresh and delicious rolls and sashimi. My friend introduced me here and I've been coming back constantly. Some of the best things on the menu are the tonkatsu ramen, the dragon roll, and the rainbow roll. The fish is fresh and each slice is thick; you really get what you pay for. Honestly the price is not bad at all and the ambiance of the restaurant is extremely enjoyable. Sit at the booths with friends and family or sit at the bar and chat with the chef while he makes your food. The space is a bit cramped but the workers are fast paced and the service is really good. The only reasons to why I gave this review 4 stars instead of 5 is that they run out of fish and other things, like Uni, too many times and too quickly. Every single time I've dined here the Uni has been sold out. At times, during weekends, some of the fish and seafood also sell out which is pretty disappointing. This leads on to the second reason; there's not a lot on the menu. They have rolls and sashimi but there's no sashimi combination (large plate of just sashimi) and there's just a lack in items compared to other Japanese restaurants that I've been to. Overall this is a really good restaurant to eat at if you're around the neighborhood or if you live nearby. It's clean, there's a good environment, the staff is incredibly friendly, and the sashimi is some of the best I've ever had. If you're looking for some good Japanese - especially some good ramen- I definitely recommend this restaurant!!
(4)Jason T.
I came here cause of all the rave reviews and basically realized those who don't really eat a lot of ramen or sushi may give this place 5 stars. The place is Japanese owned, which is a plus, but the food is not that great. If you're looking for good ramen similar to DTLA or authentic Ramen joints be prepared to be disappointed. The nigori was also disappointing. The chef, who I believe was also the owner, cut the fish really thin and placed it on an poorly form square of rice. The rice didn't have a good flavor and it was not Sushi rice either! Some of the nigori that normally has a small bit of wasabi placed under the fish of course had none. The fish was fresh, but sadly it was no good. The ramen was extremely salty and what I can only describe as msg infested. The noodles were not fresh. The price is what you'd expect from a ramen/sushi joint, but you don't get what you pay for. Lastly, this place is small and dirty. There is only one server during lunch. There are about 7-8 tables. When I arrived there were two customers and 4 dirty tables that weren't cleared. I finished my meal and there were 5 dirty tables. It will give you a quick fix, but won't be satisfying.
(1)Linda S.
LOVE the lunch combo with the tokasu ramen and roll! You can literally mix and match any way you want. ramen+ half roll full roll mini terriyaki and more! Price ranges from $8-$18 a set. The bf and I actually got 1 set with a full roll to share for lunch and it was enough to hold us over till an early dinner :) Broth is rich and a bit on the salty side so beware! I tried a baked roll so I can't comment on the sashimi but the baked roll was delish!
(4)Joann L.
This review is for JASON! My friends and I have been to Rokuan at least five times, and we've always had (at best) mediocre servers. It seemed like history was going to repeat itself this last stay. However, Jason helped out our table even more than our actual server. He served our sake and ramen, filled our tea when it was empty, brought us our check, and brought us back our cards. So what did our actual server do besides take our order? Nothing. Jason was attentive, efficient, and approachable. Definitely the best server at the restaurant.

One of the few authentic Japanese sushi restaurants near me! Parking is easy, but getting a table upon arrival, especially during peak lunch/dinner times may not be as easy. The restaurant has very limited seating since it's so tiny, and since this place is so popular, expect there to be a bit of a wait! I recommend coming either before or after the lunch/dinner rushes! I come here for their sashimi, sushi, and cut rolls. High quality, very fresh fish, higher prices, but huge portions!! I always order their hamachi (yellowtail) sashimi, salmon sashimi, unagi sushi (gargantuan pieces of eel!), uni sushi, langostino cut roll, dragon cut roll, lobster sushi, & albacore sashimi. Their fish is consistently fresh and delish....not the absolute best I've had, but this place is reputable and ranks highly in my book. It's definitely worth visiting!!!

I've been coming to this sushi place for a good decade now. Man I'm getting old. Anyhoo, this place has consistently served fresh and yummy sushi. They definitely don't skimp on the portion either. However, over the years they've slowly raised the price on their food as well. It's not as great of a deal as it used to be. I get it, you gotta account for inflation blah blah blah. But there are a few menu items that seems a bit steep like their uni. I remember that the bit selling point of this place was their uni sushi. It was under $10 for 2 pcs and they were so generous with the uni that it was piles high on the rice and actually falling over into the plate. The portion is still the same but it is now more like $17 for 2 pcs. Seems a bit expensive to me and it is a bit disappointing. As for other items on their menu, the portions are still just as generous and they have a lunch special that is of a great value. I recently had their spicy black miso ramen for lunch and it was pretty good. Not the best I've had but it's decent. The half spicy hamachi roll that came with the ramen was amazing. Maybe next time I'll just stick with their sushi even for lunch. All in all, the sushi here is top notch. It is more expensive now but it won't empty your bak account. The ramen lunch combo is a good bang for your buck but since I'm jot a big ramen person, I'll probably pass I. That next time. After 10 years, this is still a place I compare all other sushi place to. A definite must try!

We visited Rokuan for the first time due to the pictures of the ramen on Yelp. What a happy discovery! We both had the bowl of tonkatsu ramen with the side of sushi. We had never tasted anything like the tonkatsu ramen broth. It was delicious and savory. Much better than other ramen broths we've had. The noodles were al dente and perfectly prepared. The sides of spicy tuna and spicy salmon were fresh and beautifully seasoned. This is definitely a restaurant we will eat at again!

Came here for lunch and had the tonkotsu ramen, spicy tuna roll, and the mini Chirashi bowl. The ramen was surprisingly good and full of flavor. The chasu that comes with it literally melts in your mouth-- so good!! The sushi was all very fresh, but the mini Chirashi bowl is seriously 'mini' and not really worth it. I would come back again for the ramen since this place has now become my favorite ramen restaurant.

I was very pleasntly surprised. I came here as they offered Ramen (lots of sushi places around). I wasn't expecting much since most ramen at most sushi places is pretty meh but it actually ended up being quite good. The tonkotsu's broth was more of a milky type like you would expect at santouka. Also the sushi was very good. I am actually not a big fan of sushi but I ended up really liking it here. My only complaint is that it is a bit pricy. The sushi is good quality but the ramen portions are a bit small (although good) for what they charge. Normally you get much more soup and noodles for a $9 bowl of ramen.

Don't know what happened to this place but a lot of things changed. They've made the portions smaller, fish is much less fresh, and service is terrible! No wonder there isn't a line anymore. Permanently avoiding.

I'm always looking for authenticity when it comes to the type of cuisine when dining at restaurants. For instance, sushi bars/ramen houses should be owned by those with the Japanese heritage. Especially sushi bars. When I saw that this place was located in Chino Hills, I was skeptic at first. Once we got there, there was a line and when there's a line, that means the place has got to be good. Simple menu...ramen, sushi, and pseudo dinner plates with a protein and tempura. The ramen was pretty good, had good flavor and the ramen noodles were nice and tender. We also had the spicy tuna cut roll and that was pretty good as well. We didn't get a chance to order the infamous uni as many yelpers suggested or have complained that it was not available when they dined and I should have but seeing that it sells out and that its $20 for nigiri, that has to be good and I'll be sure to try it the next time we go. Overall, pretty good place and it's a good ramen house for the location. As Chino Hills is not really known to be a city for Japanese cuisine.

Look for the "SUSHI" neon sign! Very unassuming place hidden in a commercial plaza..it's very small with about 6 tables and some seats at the bar so expect to wait about 20-30 minutes for a table during dinner service. (Not a good place for kids or groups over 6 people) They have sushi & ramen combinations where you can order half or full rolls or mini-bowls with your choice of tonkotsu or black miso ramen. The prices are very reasonable and depending on what you order you can have a half roll & ramen for under 8 bucks! I had a mini-ikura bowl with the tonkotsu ramen and it came out to about $13!! The Ikura bowl was as good as it can be. It tasted fresh and the sushi rice was good, but nothing totally spectacular. It had no garnishes and wasn't over-embellished, just a simple bowl of rice with ikura. They did give a hefty portion of ikura to rice ratio though. The tonkotsu ramen was good. Since I've moved to SoCal I haven't been able to find a ramen place that I like as much as my hometown's Orenchi in Santa Clara. But Rokuan's tonkotsu ramen was a close comparison! The noodles were thin and perfectly chewy, the broth was rich and creamy and the toppings complimented the ramen very well. (They have the standard, kikurage, green onion and chashu toppings but what made their ramen stand out was the grilled onions and almonds!!) My friend had their langostino roll with his ramen ( california rolls with lobster on top) and everyone at the table enjoyed it! I'm definitely going to try this next time, along with their curry ramen!

Just want to thank chef Toru and his wife for tacking such great care my son and me. We have been going here since it opened but it's been a few years as we moved. Tonight enjoyed the very unique Himachi Kama which was huge and favorable. And oh yeah the langustino was great as always. And if you like beer you must order the Echigo.

This place came highly recommended by my brother and my youngest kid. Their description, with words like "authentic", "better than Ajisen", "so good, just like you're in Japan" got me interested, but they also said "they have weird hours", "they don't do to go", "the place is small", which made me not rush to try it. Today, I went with the youngest and.... PARTY IN MY MOUTH. I ordered the tonkatsu ramen (and added soft-boiled egg) with a side of gyo don and I think a smile was plastered on my face the whole entire time. Downside? I tend to be a slow eater and felt pressured to eat fast since there weren't many tables and there were several folks waiting.... it worked out okay... the feeling came and went quickly and I enjoyed every last slurp. Four stars.... minus one point for not offering to-go service.... in this day and age, it's about choices and convenience.

Sat at the sushi bar - 5 stars for spicy scallop roll, fresh scallop nigiri, huge yellowtail slabs, green mussels done Japanese old school style, and the salmon skin roll. The least favorites, skinny salmon skin roll, and the lobster nigiri which was a bit too cold temperature wise and could have used a little more flavor, but huge in size. It's a bit different at the sushi bar here, as you don't speak directly to sushi chef, but order off a paper menu. The younger sushi chefs came around took your written or ramen requests. Freshness, small and intimate, you feel like your celebrating something :) I will be back.
(4)Ems C.
went here on a Saturday lunch hour with my co-worker (she suggested this place) since I was craving for some ramen. Ordered the spicy black miso soup with spicy salmon roll... the Miso Soup - heaven... it was awesome..will definitely come back for the soup... the spicy salmon. not so much. maybe i'm just picky but I don't like when my rolls are loose... i mean he didnt really "packed" it... but overall it's ok... they will definitely see me again...

Solid 4 stars. This place is quite small and popular so be prepared to wait a while. Went a little later with the family so there's no wait time, but literally, we were probably the second to last of the customers to walk through their doors. I must say, I have spoiled myself the past year with all-you-can-eat sushi because everything on the menu seemed much more expensive for what you get. It just seemed that the value wouldn't hold up to how much you were paying for it, but the sushi here is fresh although the White Tuna wasn't really up to par for me. The sashimi pieces are genuinely thick pieces and the hamachi collar is what I'd go for as an appetizer to share amongst your friends. Otherwise, it's nice quiet sit down restaurant with a nice warm ambiance since lighting is minimal. I can see this place being a location for a date night. Lina Chen P.S. Be very careful when you are getting into the booths. There's really not much room and I ended up banging my knee so hard that I got a small bruise the next day... =/

This place was saved because of their ramen. But I just couldn't look past their service. Service was okay. I was asking the waiter a question and he was in the middle of answering me when another group walked in the restaurant. The chefs behind the sushi bar said something and he turned to me mid sentence and said sorry I'll be back, and he walked over to go seat the group. Hmm, you couldn't have finished answering me first or looked up to the group and said I'll be right there...nope! Had to stop mid sentence and leave me hanging. They also aren't good with kids. My niece told the waiter she finished all the edamame with a smile and he responded saying they don't have anymore....ummm okay, it was pretty awkward. I was pretty annoyed because she was just being cute and telling him she was the one who finished it and he had to comment back with a lie saying they don't have anymore. What if we wanted to order more?! Pretty awkward social skills dude. Oh and they aren't very friendly to substitutions either.
(3)John N.
Service is ridiculous. Waited roughly 5 mins once seated for menus. Tonkatsu ramen was ok, broth tasted a bit off. I've had better & to make things worse there was no egg in the ramen. Spicy miso ramen was spicy, but wasn't that great either. Once finished, had to wait another 5-10 mins or so to get the bill hen we asked for it. Got tired of waiting so I walked up & handed the bill to the sushi chef. Place sucks!
(2)Cyn K.
Food was decent but WAY overpriced for the portions. The presentation of the rolls were sloppy.
(2)joey h.
They have a really bad service... We were waiting for one friend who will arrive in 10 minutes, and there were 3 big empty tables inside. The waitress asked us to step outside to wait even we said we are going to order right away... It was 10C outside! Are you kidding me!? Will never return to this restaurant ever!!

My childhood favorite!! lolz I used to live in diamond bar and I would drive all the way to here in chino hills just for some fresh sushi!! I knew this place before yelp existed and loved coming here cause the food is awesome and we are always greeted by the cute Japnese lady. She smiles and is super polite, so seeing her smiley face makes me happy. Although i have to say, Rokuan disappointed me a little. Last time I was here was about 4 years ago, and it might not be completely fair cause I haven't gone back for so long that my expectation was high. Sushi was still fresh, sushi rolls were still yummy, ramen was yummy (which wasn't available back then) but not only the quantity decreased, the price went up as well. The staff were still friendly, but didn't see the Japanese lady with the lovely smile. The sushi chef had an assistant making the sushi which didn't come out right, it feel apart when i try to eat it. Minor things made my experience overall not as satisfying. But if you never try Rokuan before you should definitely give their fresh sushi, Lagashino roll, and black miso ramen a try!

This is my favorite ramen place. In my opinion, this is the best ramen in Southern California. My favorite is the spicy miso ramen. The broth is so flavorful and amazing. Just the right amount of spiciness. The noodles are cooked to the perfect texture for chewing. The noodles contrast nicely with the crunch from the bamboo. And the meat just melts in your mouth. I especially like the soft-boiled egg, with yolk that oozes out after one bite. The most pleasant surprise is when you bite into actual almonds in the soup. The flavors really contrast and yet harmonize well. The sashimi is fresh and delicious. Their rolls are heavenly too, but they give you 6 pieces instead of 8. I wasn't expecting the sashimi to be so fresh since it's a ramen place, but I was happily proven wrong. Service is always polite and efficient here. The one thing I wish they would change is their seating arrangement. This tiny restaurant holds 4 ridiculously long booth tables that take up the majority of the space within. This is what creates the perpetual wait for a table because parties of 2 or more sit at these long table. They need to get rid of these long tables, so that they can place a lot more smaller tables to seat more customers to increase their turnover rate.

I dunno how to describe my disappointment, this restaurant totally ruined my dinner and the rest of my day. We came to this place because of its high rate on Yalp ( I still don't know why it gets such high rate, 4 stars, seriously?!) we ordered ramen and two sushi rolls (spider roll and dragon roll), the ramen was so salty and it didn't have any born broth taste. But compared to sushi, the ramen was wayyyy better! The sushi rolls were the worst sushi I've ever tried, even buffet's sushi bar's quality is better than this one. First, the sushi looked ugly, They just put everything in,roll it and cut it in reeeeally big pieces ( twice big than others). I'm not a chef but I bet I'll do it better than they do. Secondly, They put preserved carrots in rolls (seriously?!) and add lots of sugar in the sauce, this combination made roll tasted really weird. And the price is totally nonsense, we spent $50+ for those trash which was eventually ruined my dinner.

Truly not a kid friendly resto! We we're seated beside the entrance with a 2yr old toddler,we ask if we could transfer to a much safer table and the waiter just said you were assign to this table! Bad service for me!
(1)Sal E.
The food was decent - but I can get the same quality of food two miles over without the shitty customer service. Sure, the uni portion is huge, but it's also $18.00/order... so technically, I could go to another sushi restaurant and order two servings and VOILA - same concept. Went there on a weekday evening for an early dinner. Their 4 tables were occupied but the sushi bar was completely open. Not a single soul there. We asked if we could sit at the bar, take a WILD guess what the response was? Just guess!! "Sorry, we can't seat parties larger than 3 at the bar" (bar seats 8~10) uhhhh - say what? (we had 2 adults and 2 kids) I repeated what she said back to her to see if she could hear the insanity in her "policy". "So parties of four cannot sit at the sushi bar" This time she hesitated a little and said, well if your name is on the waitlist then you are "priority" uhhhh.... say what? The "priority list" - you mean the waitlist where you go in order listed?? What if we break our party in half, 2+2 at the bar. Finally she flat out said, no kids at the bar. AHHHHHH - there it is. Now, I can understand if you're reading this and you don't have kids you may still check this place out and you may love it but overall their customer service is just crap and they really make you feel like you need to get the F out of their restaurant as soon as you sit down. You are rushed throughout the whole meal, which is quite contradictory to their LARGE WHITE TACKY black and white sign telling kids to shut the fuck up so others can enjoy their "DINNING" (SIC) experience. Maybe they need a quick training session on how to provide proper customer service so that their diners can have an enjoyable DINING experience! I've been coming here for the past 9 years and as the years pass their attitude has gotten worse. In the beginning it was bearable, they reminded us of the soup nazi in Seinfield. But over the years it just seems like the owners have grown really resentful. They're not happy and it shows in their service and overall atmosphere. When we go we are there out of convenience to grab a quick (LITERALLY QUICK) bite and get the F out because Ojiya has a wait. I've come up with a simple rule sheet for dining at Rokuan: 1. Don't come with kids. Leave them in the car, they would much prefer that than having you bring them inside with you. 2. If you have kids, they better know how to sit in silence and learn to be still. Maybe train them at home a few weeks before heading there. Just have your kids practice and sit on a chair for 60-minutes at a time, frozen. 3. You can only sit at the bar on Wednesday nights if your party is 3 or less, or if it's raining outside. But if it's sunny then you can sit at the bar with a party of 5 but only if there are 2 other people already at the bar. If it's a Thursday then you can only sit at the bar if there is one white person and another Asian from the Far East sector. On Fridays, you can only sit at the bar if you are 35 and over. Mondays they are closed. 4. You better close that damn door after yourself when you come in to the restaurant! If you have that door open for any longer than 2 seconds rest assured that someone will be coming at you with a bat. 5. Protocol, go in. SHUT THE DOOR. Sign name on the numbered "priority" list, your "priority" will be based on what number you are on the list and they go in chronological order. Don't ask any questions. Turn around and wait OUTSIDE. Shut the door behind you. 6. Once you sit down you have 30 seconds to give your order. You should already know what you want BEFORE being seated as the menu is clearly taped on the window for you to decide BEFORE being seated. 7. Eat in silence. Talking and laughter is not permitted and usually frowned upon. You may breathe. 8. Prepare yourselves for glares and dirty looks if you happen to have kids at your table. Know that YOU are not welcome. But they will happily take your money with a smile. 9. If you are en route to Rokuan, keep driving down Chino Hills Pkwy for another 1- 2 miles and go to Ojiya instead. It is packed there but its because BOTH their food AND service is excellent! yelp.com/biz/ojiya-chino… I understand a restaurant that isn't kid-friendly, but this is CHINO HILLS you are in the WRONG city to open a non-kid friendly restaurant. Get the hell out and go open in L.A. somewhere! Enjoy the commute and the lease! But hey, if you want to be that TYPE of restaurant then man up and deal with it! Otherwise, deal with the fact that you are a restaurant in Chino Hills and it is kids central here! Jesus. Don't get me wrong, I frown upon the child that is running buck wild in a restaurant with little or no parental supervision, but there are a good amount of well behaved children who can handle sitting through dinner just fine. But kids will giggle, laugh and talk with a high pitched tone! Like drunk adults.

I finally found a ramen spot in the Chino area. I had a craving and saw pretty good reviews about this place. I ordered the tonkatsu ramen with the ikrua bowl and my mom ordered the spicy black miso ramen with tempura. Our ordered came out fast and we were done eating fast. The portions are smaller than other places, but since I also had a bowl of rice, I was good. My mom on the other hand was just ok. We did order some handrolls for my family togo and that took longer to make than our main course. The young man who made it did apologize for the wait, but we did understand that the chiefs wanted to serve the other customers too. No biggie. Overall, a decent place to eat if you're craving ramen or sushi. The prices for sushi is a little overprice especially the uni and sashimi. The place is small, but customers come and go. I will probably go back, but not anytime soon.

Look out for the "SUSHI" sign then you will know you're in the right place. This ramen/sushi place is pretty cool offering ramen and sushi combo's. The place itself is pretty small so during dinner time you might expect a wait but the waitresses and sushi chefs are really nice and attentive. Me and my girlfriend got a tonkatsu ramen and a spicy miso, and I must say that spicy miso.....SPICY miso. We got the combo with the salmon hand roll as well and it was so much better than we expected. There was a perfect amount of rice (very little) and the salmon actually tasted really fresh and tasty! Thy give you the real ramen soup spoons and the noodles were chewy and the soup was delicious. The only drawback is it's a bit pricey, there's not that big of a selection, and the portions aren't that big. It's more of a place to go on a date than a full on meal but it had a really rameny feel to it. I would definitely recommend checking this place out.
(4)Frank W.
Not bad...not great...was in the area and checked out Yelp for ramen places. Small business..and we couldn't find it because there is no sign saying Rokuan just a sticker on the front door we drove by 4 times until we finally seen the door. The business sign just says Sushi.......The menu is not designed for children so don't bother but you could share it in half with your children If need be. We ordered the.popular dishes and we liked them but not sure if we would come back. Give it a try you might like it.
(2)Cat L.
Uni is to die for here! But it does run out quick so you need to get here early. The ramen is pretty yummy but at times a bit too salty. The service here is lacking and I don't understand why since it's such a small place. They are not child friendly and they let you know it.
(3)Anna H.
If you're in the 909/626 area then THIS IS THE SUSHI RESTAURANT TO GO TO!! A lot of sushi restaurants skimp out on the slice of sashimi they put on your rice to make sushi, but this place is VERY GENEROUS. The fish here is FRESHER than many other places (you can tell by the color and smell), but on top of that, the owner is Japanese :) You KNOW it's authentic. It's the real deal. Best of all, sushi tastes amazinggg! Besides sushi, they also serve ramen. Now you would think ramen at a sushi restaurant wouldnt be any good, but this place actually has GOOD ramen! I was thoroughly surprised. So if you can, try to get both sushi and ramen here for a thoroughly enjoyable meal!! You wont regret it :)

I was craving ramen after a long day and thought I would try this place on my way home. I walked in to a restaurant that looked like it was closed it was pretty dark inside. There was only one couple in there eating when I walked in. I asked for the togo menu and the girl gives me there menu but there is no ramen on the menu. I ask "where is the ramen?" and she says "we DONT serve ramen togo". I said "well can I order it and at the table and then just get a container to put it in?" she said "yes". So she brings me the ramen and I ask for a container she said "oh we don't have big ones only small ones". Seeing my frustration a guy working there asks if there is a misunderstanding because she is new, I respond by saying "I just wanted my ramen togo I have to be somewhere". I then ask for two small containers which he gives me and I am sitting there spooning my ramen in these containers. I've never been to a ramen restaurant that does not offer ramen togo as an option. What a hassle to go through to get ramen togo, I mean how hard is it to carry large containers for your customers so that if they can't sit down and eat they have an option. The ramen was good but sadly I will not be returning since most of the time I just want to get something togo and go home and relax.
(3)Teagan T.
This place changed. Their lobster roll is still just as awesome. Uni as well, when they have it. But some of the other stuff (rolls and sushi) are not as good as they used to be. Also the prices have raised up quite a bit from 3-4 years ago.
(3)Mega B.
This place used to be good but their sushi is now hastily made mess of lump of rice and fish. Fish is still quality, just that the guy that makes it need to be replaced.
(2)Tiffany N.
Pretty good ramen in a random shopping center in Chino Hills. I got the ramen combo that came with tonkatsu ramen and your choice of 1/2 a roll. Prices varying depending on what roll you get, but I got the spicy salmon roll. Tonkatsu ramen was pretty good. It came with seaweed, bamboo shoots, peanuts, and charsiu. I wish they included a soft boiled egg! Spicy salmon roll had thick pieces of salmon. They take their last orders here at 8:30pm. Thank fully we made our order with 8 minutes to spare. Who would've thought that there would be a wait for this restaurant, but they don't have very much seating inside. I thought it was pretty hilarious that they have a sign that reminds people to keep their children tame lol. Amen!
(4)Josh K.
An excellent Japanese all rounder, you can get good ramen AND good sushi at this place. I wish we had discovered this sooner. You can get combos of their ramen and sushi rolls if that's how you ... roll. I really liked the spicy miso ramen flavor, though be forewarned that it contains nuts (toasted almonds). I went with someone who has a (potentially former) nut allergy and there was a bit of a scare. No harm, no foul though - we should have asked. But it would be even better if it was published on the menu.
(4)Emil C.
The booths here are not very comfortable. You usually will bang your knees if you're not careful. There are about 5 booths. There is the option of sitting at the sushi bar. There is a sign at the top of the sushi bar area that basically tells you to control your children because noisy patrons will not be tolerated. I usually ordered the spicy black miso ramen and a half order langostino roll. Those are their most popular items on their menu. The spicy black miso ramen is very flavorful and different from most ramen shops. If you're not into spicy black miso, their tonkotsu ramen isn't bad. It does get crowded during meal time, so come early if you don't like waiting.
(3)Lahana W.
Dankest ramen! So flavorful! Glad my girlfriend showed me this spot, I will be back soon with the Bae for sure. Tonkatsu ramen+beef bowl is a MUST 13.45+1.08 tax =14.53 well spent
(5)Anonymous G.
This place lives up to every star. It is nothing fancy but it is one of the best local, authentic Japanese sushi restaurants. I consider it a hidden gem though it is really popular during peak hours. Seating is limited so there is usually a wait and their menu, though not the cheapest, is almost as limited as their seating. There is nothing fancy about the restaurant and you would not guess what a gem it is from the looks of it. Rokuan keeps a simple format and lets the freshness and cut of their sushi (and maybe even the generosity of their uni) do all the talking. Recently, Rokuan outdid themselves with the addition of one simple item: ramen. The tonkatsu ramen here is the best I've had in the area and arguably the best I've ever had. It leaves you dehydrated and wanting more still and that's the way Rokuan does it -- it keeps you coming back for more.

Here is one of my favorite ramen restaurants around LA. I have been here over 5 times, and I'm sorry that its operation hours seriously restricts my visit. How it closes so early at 8:30 pm!!! Basically, the soup and the noodle of its ramen both are good enough. More importantly, I enjoy eating ramen and sushi/ sashimi at the same place! Its sushi, sashimi or roll are not delicate dishes, but they are fresh and yummy.
(5)Josh J.
We don't have much to choose from in the IE when it comes to ramen. But this place hit the spot. The spicy black miso is spicy but not overly so. The rolls are cut very thick. Not to my liking, but some do like it that way. A bowl of ramen and a full cut roll for about 20 bucks. Not too bad.
(4)Mia L.
Grateful to have found a place that actually serves ramen. It was a pretty crowded night but I think maybe because the place is not that big. Luckily we got to sit in the bar section. We order the ramen and sushi combo. It was just as expected GOOD. The broth was good and it hit that spot. So satisfying. Great four star place for Chino Hills.
(4)Santi C.
We just moved back to the area. We had been enjoying a ramen house called Santouka for some time so I was looking for some good ramen, We tried a couple of places in the area and I was just not happy with either the broth or the noodles until we found Rokuan. It was soooo good. Rich broth, good noodles yummy pork. I had the tonkatsu and added an egg. Absolutely delicious. I also had the spider roll which is my favorite. Theirs is wonderful. Mine came to 17 dollars and change. I would pay it again, no question. We will be going back and I may try some more items, but what I had today was great. Nice wait-staff. Full of people.
(5)Ben H.
It used to be one of my favorite local Japanese restaurant. Food: Good. Though menu is pretty limited, it doesn't bother me. I don't eat there every week. Price: Big raise recently. I ordered Tempura/sashimi combo last month, $17.95. Yesterday when the menu came to me, I couldn't believe that it raised to $22.95. In the past, every combo in the menu was priced under $20. Now all raised to +$20. Value: Price jumped too much and I won't come back.
(3)Chrystal L.
Didn't even get to eat here because they don't have high chairs. Would it hurt to spend $100 on 2 high chairs for customers to use? The waiter asked "Did you bring your own?" We'll just take our money elsewhere for dinner.
(1)Steffie D.
It was ALRIGHT. Not bad, but not amazing. The decor was lacking. The menu had no pictures. And the pricing was kind of high. I decided to eat here because of all the reviews saying the ramen is soo amazing. I mean it's GOOD. But it's definitely not like OMG this is the best. mmm No. I can understand like maybe this is the best "local" place to go to, but I'm not a local. So yelp deceived me on this one. I'm definitely not making a trip out to this place again.
(3)Gretchen R.
Ramen was very very tasty. I felt like the portion wasn't big enough though. Other ramen places allow you to purchase more noodles (which i've never done since they give you enough to begin with) but they waiter said I had to buy another bowl. Staff is all Japanese, giving an authentic feeling experience. The restaurant is very small so might not be great for parties of more than 4.
(4)Brandon C.
I was truly hoping my wife and I would have a great experience here. I gave Rokuan 3 stars instead of 2 because, contrary to what some have stated here, the service was great. However, their food, more specifically, their ramen, was sub par. The noodles did not have a fresh flavor and texture, the broth was one-dimensional, the tonkatsu broth was bland, the spicy black miso broth was overpowered with spice and the slice of meat was pathetic. On a positive note, their sushi was fresh and their rice was cooked well. I was hoping to find a good ramen place near us so we don't have to drive to OC and LA but it looks like we will still have to make the trek and continue praying for a good local ramen place.
(3)Elisa D.
I wanted to love this place more. Came because of the good reviews. The Ramen was just ok. It didn't have the depth of flavor I am used to at other Ramen places. Not something I would come back for. I also got the langastino roll. It just was masked by way too much mayo. No need for that with such a beautiful product. The service was fast, but had to ask for things several times They were in a hurry, & we felt hurried. They don't offer anything as an add-on, even for $. You have to order the whole meal. Seems like they would, as most places do. Overall, disappointed :(
(2)Jazmyn L.
Been wanting to try this place out for a while now since I live just up the street, and after reading some reviews and seeing that it has 4 stars made it even more appealing, but it turns out it was just okay. Food we ordered- -Tonkatsu Ramen w/ full order of Salmon Skin Roll -Amaebi Sushi (Sweet Sushi) -Philidelphia Roll -Sashimi w/ tempura -Langostino Roll -Beef teriyaki w/ tempura to-go Only thing worth it to me were the deep fried shrimp heads!

Their uni always ran out :( but still strongly recommended this place for uni lovers and sweet shrimp lover. It's not that expensive if you don't think eat 100% full. But it you treat it like all you can eat, then it can be very expensive. There is a cut roll with lobster meat on top is a must try!! ^^

As a ramen enthusiast I have to say this is the best ramen around! Their tonkatsu ramen is top notch with fresh, chewy noodles topped with sweet almonds, crunchy bamboo, and the tastiest slices of pork. The spicy miso ramen is a delicious alternative with slightly less umami than the tonkatsu, but a deeper spicier taste than I was expecting from miso. On top of these two ramen staples they have specials written on the board by the bar that change pretty often, so if you manage to get there when the curry ramen it's an awesome special with Japanese curry mixed into the miso flavor. They also have combination options like hand rolls and sushi, even small rice bowls with savory-sweet, thin-sliced beef and gingery chicken. Honestly, my only problem here is that they won't let you take the ramen home!

I've been here before, perhaps several years ago, and I remember having a pleasant experience. Upon returning, I was rather disappointed with the noodles. Has it always looked/tasted like the noodles I get at Asian supermarkets and boil in water myself? I don't recall it doing so, or else I wouldn't have brought my family here for a dinner out. The broth was good, but it wasn't good enough to offset the cheap noodles. At least I was really full off ordering the half roll (4 pieces) and the eel (though ~$7) was well portioned. There are so many other restaurants with better quality noodles and fair prices. I can't tell if there's been a change in management in the past year (or three) or the ingredients that they use, but their service was good. Things to note: Their hours, their wait time (the first time I brought my family here, it was packed and they had closed the restaurant to prepare for the dinner crowd), and their location (to the right of Stater Bro's, with the sign SUSHI).

Good sushi and ramen here. The amount of food you get for the price is kind of sketchy, but they did have a lot of people working there, so they have to charge a high price. The place is on the corner (look for the words SUSHI on the window). Otherwise, the name of the place is not up top. It looks a bit weird as you enter the restaurant, because the seating is just long black booths. As long as you're there at a not-so-busy hour, you'll probably have a booth to yourself. I went here with a friend on Friday night at 6 pm, and we left around 6:45 pm and the restaurant was pretty filled up by then, but no one had to share booths yet. There's a bar you can sit at, if you dine by yourself. I had the Tonkatsu Ramen, which is just pork ramen. It was pretty good, but I wish I had an egg in mine. It probably isn't traditional, but I love eggs in my ramen. The broth was flavorful. I don't think it's fresh noodles, because the last time I had fresh ramen it was a darker brown and not wavy (but this was at a place in San Diego). It was still good, and I'd definitely eat it again. There's only two types they have, the pork ramen and the spicy miso pork ramen. My friend had the spicy miso, and he said it was a bit spicy for him, but he still ate it all. We did the ramen + half roll of sushi. He got the spicy tuna, and I had the baked salmon. Both tasted fresh and amazing. The baked salmon gets stuck to the aluminum foil, so be careful not to accidentally break your roll. To nit pick slightly, whomever makes the rolls doesn't really add enough rice, so it doesn't look completely covered around the seaweed. Makes the presentation look a bit weird. Overall, if you're dying for some ramen, I would come here. The sushi is worth getting as well.

Best. Ramen. Everrrrrr. The sushi has large cuts of meat and tastes fresh. One of my go-to spots in the area.

An amazing, blessed discovery. I'm so glad my friends and I stumbled upon this place (through the power of Yelp, whoo hoo!). The place is very unassuming -- definitely a hole in the wall (I mean, the neon sign simply reads "SUSHI" in the corner of a seemingly ghost complex). The place is small, so there was a bit of a wait -- but it was so worth it! Interior feels very traditional, and the tables were lined with families (didn't stop us, large beers were only $4.50!!!). Had a large Sapporo and the tonkatsu ramen with a side of half California roll. Incredibly simple roll, but it tasted extremely fresh! The ramen itself surprised me with almonds, and had a neat kick to it. Be sure to ask for some of the chili powder! Sampled my friend's sushi (didn't quite catch the name of the roll), and it was incredibly good as well! A must try!!

Ramen is the best here. The portion of sushi is really huge and the way they serve is unipue and interesting, but the taste is just ok. Only the downside of this place is service.

Great ramen and rolls, the food is really delicious. Fav is the tonkatsu ramen. Been coming here for over a year every few weeks, but my family refuses to come anymore because we had some issues with the policy, one of the waiters blatantly lied to us, and the owner was kind of rude. (They're not bad people, but customer service doesn't seem to be everyone's priority.) Recommended this place to extended family, but they had a bad experience with service and won't come again. I can't really blame the servers because they do try, but service isn't always great. Would recommend at least trying the food though! That's a plus :)

Don't get me wrong, their food is not bad, it's just overpriced and I think they are in the hurry to kick us out so the bring us the bill before we even finish half of our food, ramen is over cooked, but soup base is good, the crunchy roll is the best, but for dinner combination, a bowl of ramen with three tiny pieces of roll for $15?!?!??! This is a joke, 20mins after we got home, we order another pizza so we don't have to starve for the night

At least once or twice a week that I'm there for lunch. You can't go wrong with the curry ramen noodles. Always delicious and leave there very satisfying.

It's rare to find a place that has such delicious ramen AND sushi but this is definitely it. I like that you can get a ramen/sushi combination. I had the tonkotsu ramen and the broth was super flavorful. The crunch roll was the best I've ever had. And I've tried A LOT of different ones. The only thing keeping this from a 5-star review is the price given the portion. My combination was $15.95 which is pricey for lunch and considering that the ramen was pretty small and the full roll was only 6 pieces.

Hamachi roll + black miso ramen lunch combo. Not bad for being far from the sea ports, and a satisfying lunch all around. The sushi tasted fresh and the roll was flavorfully crafted. The black miso is nothing to write home about... except that it's darker than regular miso. It wasn't as robust in flavor as miso from Santouka or anything, but it was decent. I think I'll try the tonkotsu ramen next time. Chirashi bowl in the lunch combo is small! Be warned! My coworker was sorely disappointed after realizing that the picture he saw was not the same sized portion. The tonkotsu ramen is heavy. It means business, and not for the weak stomached. My other coworker barely put a dent in her ramen. She said it was good, but super rich and flavorful... and very filling. The storefront is quite modest and was a bit hard for us to find after the GPS navigated us. It's off to the side of the plaza.

I had the special which was curry ramen. It was really good, I loved the little dumplings that came with it. It was flavorful and not overly spicy. The portion was just perfect too. I also tried the spicy tuna roll and again, spicy but flavorful. Didn't even need soy sauce. I'll definitely come back again for more sushi and hopefully the curry ramen will become a staple.

Alcohol - Yes, beer and sake. No hard liquor in sight. Food - Good sushi here. The fish quality is really high for a tiny random sushi place in the middle of suburban Chino Hills. Portions are really big as well. An order of Uni sushi would be 2-3 orders at some other places. The unagi pieces are huge when you order the sushi. Ramen options are also really good. The sushi rice is some of the best I've had. Not to hard not to soft, has good texture and taste. This place is pretty interesting, small, traditionalish sushi place owned and run by a Japanese sushi chef which is different from most sushi in the area owned by Koreans. Small sushi bar seats about 6 but only takes parties of 3. About 5 tables that seat 6-8. Watch your knees, the legs are really close to the booth benches. They put thin padding on the legs that don't help much. My families go to sushi spot close to our house. Last time we went we ordered so much but was sad they ran out of Uni. I think the chef heard and served us a portion of Uni for free. Probably not enough to make a whole order so they gave it away haha.

I really enjoy this place, except for where it's located. It was a bit out of the way for me, since I was living in Fullerton for school, but I still made the trip out here for some really good food once in a while. The sushi is really fresh, and I really like the rolls they have here. It's a bit small, so if it gets busy then you'll most likely be waiting a while. Definitely worth checking out if you like sushi!

Tonkatsu Ramen is pretty good. We also like the langistino lobster rolls. Service is ok. Small spot, so sometimes you have to wait for a seat. Make sure this place is open before you get there.

I agree with some of the other Yelpers in that the menu can be a bit confusing. I ordered a mini unagi bowl, not knowing that it came with ramen. The options of having tonkotsu or spicy black miso should've given it away, but nope.. didn't catch on til the guy brought me a bowl of ramen. I got to try both the tonkotsu and spicy black miso broths. I preferred the tonkotsu over the black miso.. didn't much care for it. The noodles were also a bit hard for my liking. The unagi bowl was better. It included 2 very large pieces of eel over some white rice. Didn't get any refills for our water. I thought the set up of the place was a bit off.. set up meaning tables. The 2 front tables that are closest to the door didn't seem like they belonged there at all in that they didn't match with the rest of the tables.

The ramen is just amazing! Add some uni, sweet shrimp, and langostino and you're in heaven. Better than daikokuya, kouraku, shinsengumi, or ajisen.

The ramen totally hit the spot, and the mackerel sushi portion was quite generous. Guess who's not driving out to Orange County next time she has a ramen craving ...

Really cute Japanese restaurant! Wasn't expecting it to be better than good, but it was really good. The salmon hand roll I ordered was amazing. I could eat 10 of those. I got mine non-spicy, which just means it doesn't come with the spicy mayo, but my boyfriend thoroughly enjoyed his spicy salmon hand roll too. My tonkotsu ramen was really oily, but unlike my bowl at daikokuya, it wasn't oily to the point where it made me sick. I would still prefer that it be less oily though, but I would come back for the ramen. They gave us free hot tea and the service was exceptional. If my ramen wasn't so oily, it'd be a full 5 stars, but I think it's a solid 4.5 stars.

I was first introduced to this place last week by my friend after school when we were hungry and looking for places to eat. I'd been craving sushi for a long time now so he suggested this small restaurant. At first it sounded unfamiliar, but as we approached the building, I remembered driving by a few times. The location is somewhat hidden by the tinted windows; you'd think it was closed if you were driving by in the morning. The place also has weird hours but the sushi definitely made up for all the cons. I ordered the black miso ramen along with a salmon roll. The ramen was the best I'd had in awhile and the sushi tasted incredibly fresh. The service was wonderful and the employees did a great job of making you feel welcome. Overall, it is a little overpriced but I think well worth it for the quality and traditional ambiance of the restaurant. Update: I've visited this place two more times and can verify that both the tonkatsu and black miso ramens are delicious. Arguably the best ramen I've ever had. The sushi is very good but I do think they go a little heavy on the rice. Other than that, service is still great and I will be returning!

We decided we have to stop coming here. This place used to be the gem for us past few years and we always gave high ratings. But lately, the sashimi we normally get have definitely drop in size and quality which make this place really pricey for a neighborhood sushi restaurant. Uni - definitely scaled down not only the Uni, the rice and seaweed too. I can only reason that they had to scale down the rice and seaweed too to complement the Uni so it would still look huge and scrumptious. Yellowtail Sashimi - thinner and not their usual grade but same price Yellowtail Collar - we have stop ordering this ever since they jack up the price to almost $20. Beside the food, here are other reasons make us stop coming here (all in one night): The server missed calling our name on the wait list. Instead, he called the party right below us. I had to asked them why since my name has not yet cross out from the list and we both had same number of people. Although there were at least 3-4 servers, 2 sushi chefs serving say 7 or 8 tables and 8 sushi bar seats in this tiny place, they had mistakenly, repeatedly putting wrong orders at my table. Next, we had to ask for plates and wasabi when our orders had already been placed on the table. Although we dine at Rokuan about 30-45mins, family we met up afterward commented if we had BBQ for dinner. That's right, we smell like we had Korean barbecue. I have notice that past few times. I do mind smelling like I had BBQ when I supposed to have sushi at a sushi restaurant. We noticed that most people ordered ramen and few sushi roll. Maybe Rokuan have changed focus gearing to ramen and bento box. Overall we were very disappointed and decided we rather go to another establishment for our Uni and sashimi palate next time.
